It's great
For now I bought so I can use it with driver4vr and play some VR games so I can decide if I want a full on VR headset like the Acer windows mixed reality and I might buy another of this controller to connect to my PC if i can and use a Xbox Kinect with a headset to make a full diy VR setup if it's cheaper but it's works really well and didn't expect for the track pad to feel good and I thought it was gonna feel like plastic but it didn't and it feels high quality which I love and works for my needs

Works fine with Samsung Galaxy Edge 7 and original (1st version - white) Oculus Gear VR hood. It's fabulous! I hope all the VR apps fit this controller into their code. Schwein wouldn't be possible with just this controller, but any apps that use the hood side controls could be converted to make use of it. There are quite a few apps that work with this controller, and using this controller is very fast, easy and intuitive. No more pointing at things using your neck muscles, just point using your hand, and instead of tapping the hood, pull a trigger. It has what looks like a laser sight that is really neat. It's a great addition to your VR setup.

works great but i had some pairing issues at first
works great but i had some pairing issues at first. i was getting an error that said i had to do an update to pair the controller and when i tried to, i got a message saying the update was completed. i got this about 5 or 6 times even after i restarted the phone. i had to uninstall and reinstall the whole app and everything worked fine after that.Overall i think this is a good addition to the gear VR. It definitely helps with immersion and makes it feel more like a quality VR unit.

Greatly expands the Gear VR experience
Whereas some Samsung Gear VR apps can be controlled via the touch pad on the headset itself, a number of apps require a handheld controller. This is that controller. The controller pairs via Bluetooth with the Samsung phone (as opposed to the headset directly) and communicates with the Oculus app. I have a model SM-R322 Gear VR (November 2015), and this controller model is fully compatible with it. Presumably it would also be compatible with all newer Gear VR models as well, at least up to the SM-R325 (the latest model of which I am aware, at time of writing this).Powered by two AAA batteries, the controller is symmetrical and can thus be held in either hand (the Oculus app allows you to configure it for use in the right or left hand). Its control inputs consist of an index-finger trigger, a touch-sensitive circular pad for the thumb, a click/press of that touch pad, a "back" button, a "home" button, volume up/down buttons, and gravity and accelerometer data. Within the Gear VR home environment, the controller appears hovering in midair in approximately the location of the user's hand, tilting and rotating according to how it is being held, and emitting a laser-like beam that manifests as a white dot on the virtual control panels, allowing you to select controls with a click of the finger trigger or thumb pad. The behavior may vary within individual apps, but it is usually similar. The Gear VR home environment's control panels include a battery indicator for the controller, right next to the one for the phone itself. You may not be able to enjoy or even use many Gear VR apps without a controller. This greatly expands the number of apps that will be accessible to you. This controller is not intended or known (at least, as far as I know) to work with anything other than a Samsung Gear VR headset. Such VR controllers have not really become standardized yet.

Not usable because software is no longer available.
Excited to use as a VR controller but very limited to what it can connect to and the software is no longer available. Useless unless you want to spend days trying to figure out how and what to use it with.

Decent new input device, but still a lot to be desired
There's still some work to be done for samsung gear VR. I bought this to enhance my already light samsung gear VR experience. As a PC and general gamer, VR has been very intriguing to me ever since it's inception, but I don't feel the market is large enough to justify spending on the oculus rift or HTC vive at the moment. That said, I do have a Samsung S7 edge, so the small additional cost of the headset and some controllers isn't too bad.The samsung gear VR controller adds an enjoyable new way to interact with the gear VR environment, but there's still a lot of limitations. Since it's limited to tilt and direction control, you don't get feedback from moving your arm forward/backwards or higher/lower. Still, it adds a lot of immersion to things like shooters. Drop Dead is quite fun with this. You may find yourself resetting the position often.Lastly, the way that on/off is handled is terrible in my opinion. It will sleep after a while, but you can't manually turn it off, save taking out the batteries, which is, needless to say, not very convenient. I've run into many issues with connectivity because of this I think. Often the controller will not turn off, or it won't pair. I have to cycle through my bluetooth on/off, taking out the batteries, etc. and even after it connects it will drop off in the software. I have not been able to find the solution. It just doesn't work until it does after multiple attempts.I am awaiting more firmware and software available to see if the experience can get better. All in all, I purchased this discounted so I don't regret the purchase too much...

Works fine, I wish it calibrated itself.
It seems like it wants me to calibrate it every time I connect it. Not sure if that's a feature or a bug and I'm not sure if that's the unit or the app or my phone. The drift inside the VR app is annoying. I have to readjust every couple minutes by holding down the home button. Samsung could have just added a simple IR camera in the unit and two LEDs in bottom of the headset and used that to calibrate itself. Hey wow genius that took me two minutes to come up with what the hell is Samsung smoking.
