Questions I Ask When I Want to Talk About Myself: 50 Topics to Share with Friends Cards – April 2, 2013

I mostly bought this because I really enjoy Mindy and her sense of humor. I was hoping it was more of like a card game, or something weird like that, but they're just cards with her thoughts. I have not yet used the cards for anything, I've just gone through a few of them to see what they say. To my disappointment, a few of the cards I read were very similar to some of the things she said in her book. They still had her sense of humor at least so that's the good part. I recommend them if you're just looking for something quick and funny to flip through personally, but I'm not sure how these used at a social event if that's what you were hoping to do... If you've read her book, expect similar things as well. Overall, not bad, but not the greatest.

The cards have an excerpt from Kaling's first book, followed by a question. The questions are directed toward you based on the excerpt, but they're not appropriate for every setting. If you're discussing these questions with friends from high school, the question about a popular girl you went to high school with might be boring. I expected the questions to be more philosophical, I guess. Instead they're a little college. Still, it's a set in great condition, beautiful design, and a perfect substitute for actually buying her book.

I originally thought this was going to be more of a question game you could play with your friends, but that was my mistake. Each card has a little story on it from Mindy's life then there is a self-reflective question on the bottom. I have not yet used these question in a group setting.. I think they would be really good during a girl's night though! I have used these for journal prompts though and love them!

I own both Chuck Klosterman's HYPERtheticals and Mindy Kaling's conversation cards.I teach a college public speaking class and these types are cards are an excellent tool for class activities. I have students read their card and then go to the front of the room and explain it as an extemporaneous skill building activity. This is often cited as a highlight of the semester because it allows for students to open up and talk to the class without feeling the pressure of having to deliver a prepared speech.

The stories that preempted the questions were pretty lengthy, so somewhat difficult to play with a large group. Because they led into long discussions, we only made it through maybe 4 cards before getting into the full swing of the evening.Could see being great as ice breakers.

I got this because I loved Mindy Kaling's book,  Is Everyone Hanging Out Without Me? (And Other Concerns) . These are just excerpts from that books that are slightly changed. At the end she tacks on a question relating to the text.For example, she recalls the story of being twice the size of a schoolmate, then asks, "Were you ever twice the size of a friend? What was that like?" It's a shame because I liked the book so much, but I will stick to the  The Book of Questions , because these questions just didn't allow for any true conversation.

It's very funny, but not as funny as I thought it would be. I think I'd rather read the book she wrote.

La calidad del producto es excelente, el diseño editorial es muy bonito, pero no me gustó que el contenido es en un porcentaje muy alto el mismo contenido al de otro libro de la autora (Is everyone hanging out without me?), me hubiera gustado saber eso antes para no comprarlo, aunque el libro me encantó, no hubiera escogido tener dos libros iguales.

I'd have liked these cards better if they weren't just excerpts from Mindy's book "Is Everyone Hanging Out Without Me? It feels like I bought the same book twice - just in different formats.

Not great. Just a celebrity name trying to sell something.
