Tattler's Branch

Not Enough Excitement
I received this book free as it was damaged. It is a simple story about a female doctor living and working in a small village in the early 1900's. I read at the end of the book that there was a prequel, it would have been better for this to have been made clear either on the cover or at the front of the book. I would have liked to read them in order. This book did stand alone but it would have been easier to understand and relate to the characters if I had read the prequel "Skip Rock Shallows."The story was readable but there wasn't enough excitement for me. It was quite slow in places and I was tempted to give up. However, I did read until the end and by this point the characters had grown on me. I don't think I would bother to buy a sequel but I might read it if it was free! This is advertised as Christian Historical Fiction. There are a few references to God and some hazy Bible verses but the story is not about faith and doesn't have this as an underlying theme. I would describe it more as a "moral" story with good principles, than "Christian." The book is clean, free of bad language, graphic violence and sexual content. There is a murder but it is not described in graphic detail. I would recommend for any readers.

Enjoyable read
I can honestly say that seeing as its historical fiction, which I haven't read for a very long time, this was an enjoyable read. I got myself into the time zone and was well into it.I hadn't read the first book in the series, and quite honestly I didn't realize this until I started to read this one. Doing some research I realised that I am missing some of the storyline which does make a difference, I can't say this could be read easily without reading the first book of this series. I'd highly recommend it.Saying that, by the time I got half way through I was able to piece more and more together. It was an enjoyable read and I'd read another book by this author in a heart beat.I got this as a complimentary book from Tyndale House Publishers via Net Galley.

Tern and Lilly
This is a slightly strange tale and is especially exciting and adventurous. Term works for the government mining department and travels a great deal . Lilly is the town doctor and busy constantly. Her friend finds a sickly newborn and everything is tipsy turvey from then on. You will enjoy discovering how they find their happily ever after.

A sweet, simple story
A sweet, simple story. I liked it! I do recommend, however, reading the first book in the series first, which I think is Skip Rock Shallows. I was wishing at times that I had read the first one first, but I didn't realize this was the 2nd one right away... If you just want an easy read, historical romance. I think you will enjoy this!!

Terrific Book!
This is a novel about a woman doctor who practices medicine in a coal town in the hollows of Kentucky during the early 20th Century. She is the central character in a story that weaves murder, kidnapping, romance and a glimpse into medical practices circa 1911. The language seems to me to be authentic to the time and the locale and I found it quite interesting. I took three days to read this book but only because I had other things I needed to do; I would much rather have had a free day to finish it in one sitting! This is the first ebook I've read in which I found no grammatical errors! I'd highly recommend Tattler's Branch for anyone over 16. It is not the first book in this series. I haven't read any of the others in the series but I had no trouble picking up on the main characters. I look forward to reading more books by Jan Watson.

Wonderful, Involving, and Period-Appropriate
Jan Watson writes such lovely characters, and such real-seeming scenes that I feel as if I'm right there among them. Some of the characters had surprising backstory, and the plot had a few twists. I wanted to hold my breath at times, waiting to see what was next. The story hints at events in previous books, but it isn't distracting and it is well explained so that this book is complete in itself, and it has a satisfying conclusion. I really like this clean, engaging story.
