Lonely Planet Ecuador & the Galapagos Islands (Travel Guide)

Good value

I’m traveling to the Galapagos in November and have 5 more days after the trip to explore Ecuador. The guide makes me wish I had more time to spend in Ecuador.

Another good guide from Lonely Planet. Good history section!

Overall very good. I found the prices to be a little outdated, in part due to inflation I suppose, and the fact that it’s probably not updated annually. Used this mostly for Quito and was worth the money. Oddly, shortly after I left the country, drug gang violence escalated and the new government leaned into it and declared a state of emergency. Until 4 years ago Ecuador was one of the safest countries in Latin America. Of course a book that is updated every few years can’t be expected to stay current on these things, but thankfully we have the internet now. I wouldn’t go to Ecuador at the time of this writing, but when things calm down, I would definitely grab this book. Hopefully an update is forthcoming soonish…

Information was outdated and sometimes inaccurate. Gave it three stars because it was somewhat helpful. Organization of material is very poor. Have to flip back and forth between pages. Some areas described in highlighted areas, but not mentioned in regular text or in the maps.I can understand being outdated because a lot of businesses are no longer operating since Covid. However, no real excuse for the disorganization of the material.

The local maps suck. Obviously printed without a geographer review. Those galapagos street maps are a joke. Fire your mapping person.

There is always a lag between reviews and the release of the book, but never seen a travel guide that was so wrong and missing updates. Prices/info was from 2-3 y ago and a lot have changed

I've been traveling all over the world, relying mainly Lonely Planet for past 2.5 decades. This new addition (published date within a month of my travel) for Ecuador was so-so. Although new, I discovered there's some major info that has not been updated. There were omissions that were vital to know. It's fine but needs to be supplemented with other resources.

J'ai été particulièrement déçu par les apports de ce guide. Je pensais pouvoir bénéficier de conseils intéressants et sur le parcours que nous avons choisi les zones du Cotopaxi, Quilotoa/Tigua, Chimborazo, Cuenca, Churute, Machalilla sont peu ou mal documentées. Bref, un guide plutôt superficiel et inutile pour mon parcours.
