The Japanese Battleship Yamato (Super Drawings in 3D)

It's just an okay book
To start with, I am an avid battleship student. I have several models of Yamato and was hoping this book would have some insight as to the interior of the ship. For the asking price, it seemed fair. Of course, the book offered little beyond a cross section of the turrets and placements. For the most part, this was an in-depth artist's rendition of hull, and superstructure details. They are good, don't get me wrong. I was hoping for something more mechanical. The 3-D artwork is nice, but not groundbreaking. They do include a very cheap pair of 3-D lenses and an interesting technical poster detailing things like the antenna and funnel configuration. It's a mildly interesting collection of illustrations, but without much substance. For the price, you can do much better.

With TEN 3-D drawings st the back
Awesome book. Here are the plans for the Japanese Battleship Yamato (NOTE: NOT SPACE BATTLESHIP YAMATO)The book includes 3-D glasses. The guns look like they are pointed right at the reader.Perfect book for my little WWII enthusiast. He loves it.

A great book!
This book is very helpful in my building the 1/200 scale Yamato Battleship as of late! It has been my go to source for the build! One great book! Thanks so much !

A worthy ship for a series milestone
This is the 50th book (no. 16050) in the Super Drawings in 3D series. Appropriately, it covers a special ship - the largest battleship ever built (along with her sister Musashi) , the Yamato. The book is a stapled card cover, 8-1/4" x 11-3/4", of 100 pages. The book is a fine effort in its own right. It seems to depict the ship at the time of her loss although this is not explicitly stated. The computer renderings do a fine job of showing the external features of the ship although the captions, as always, are minimal. In addition, and rare for this series, there are four pages that show some internal detail around the No. 2 turret. There are also 10 pages of anaglyphs (which require 3D glasses which are included). I am not a big fan of the latter feature but other readers might feel differently. The text is spread over parts of 6 pages. It gives a barely adequate introduction to the ship. A brief table of characteristics and bibliography are also included. The latter includes the Anatomy of the Ship volume by Janusz Skulski which is probably the best all around book devoted to the Yamato. There is also an unbound foldout with conventional line drawings. The two side views and plan view are 1:400 scale while the bow and stern views are at 1:350 scale. Many fittings are drawn at larger scales. This book was preceded by a very similar book on the Musashi by the same author. As in the case of his two books on two Italian sister ships, Roma and Vittorio Veneto, one book is the superior of the two. The Yamato book is the superior book in this instance. It has 16 additional pages devoted to the aforementioned interior views and anaglyphs. If one already has the Musashi book one is not getting a great deal of additional value. The two ships are very similar. The Yamato differs in having more antiaircraft guns in place of the wing 155mm turrets than does the Musashi and also has a quarter deck that is not built up to make a flush decked ship like the Musashi.Highly recommended if you don't already own the Musashi book. If you do, it's your call.

Fantastic detailed images
I am building the 1:200 Nichimo Yamato (R/C Version) converting from two to six channel and from 1944 spec to as sunk in April 1945. This book, along with the Skulski/Draminski and Shipcraft publications are invaluable for all modellers of the Yamato and Musashi - particularly if you are incorporating more (scratch build) detail.
