Fascinating look at a tragic event.
I found this book fascinating and gorgeous. The 3-D renderings are very detailed and provide a fascinating look at the famous ship. I learned quite a bit about the building of the ship. For example, I had no idea the ship was built in Ireland. I also learned that the ship's builders did not call her unsinkable, that was a myth that developed later. I think the most powerful part of this book are the quotes from individuals who sailed on the ship, from both survivors and victims. The text is divided up into short sections that match the visual elements. This makes the book especially appropriate for reluctant readers. The illustrations include 3-D renderings, along with photographs, artifacts, quotes and primary documents. I think the most powerful images are the pictures of the ship as a whole. These give the reader a feel for how impressive the Titanic really was and the shock and horror involved in her sinking. As I read this I felt sympathy for those who suffered and lost so much. The CD offers the user a 3-D look at some of the main features of the ship, including one of the boiler rooms, the bridge, the promenade, the staircase, and the 1st class dining room. It's interesting to turn 360 degrees and see the room as if you are standing in it. I recommend this book to all those who find themselves fascinated by this tragic event.

Titanic In Color!
Sometime in the early 1950's as a young teenager I discovered a book in the collection of a neighbor about the maiden voyage and sinking of the Titanic. This particular book, "The Sinking of the Titanic and Great Sea Disasters", Copyright 1912 by L.T. Myers and published in 1912, the year of the disaster, contained the six sketches of the young, age 17, John B. (Jack) Thayer, Jr., showing the various stages of the striking of the iceberg and sinking of the ship. Multiples of those sketches clearly showed the ship breaking apart near to amidships, with the bow and stern floating independently before the two separated sections sank. For whatever reason those sketches went largely unknown or ignored for years until 1986 when the wrecked remains of the Titanic were discovered and photographed by Robert Ballard, which indeed showed the two sections of the ship on the ocean floor, not just separated, but, some distance apart. The 1997 James Cameron film, "Titanic" effectively detailed and dramatized this breakup. The 1953 and 1956 films did not. This book and the included CD contain much information for the Titanic enthusiast, but, the most thrilling part of it is the computerized color depictions of the ship and it's interiors. The '97 Cameron film was also incredibly accurate with color depictions of the ship and it's interiors. This book and CD are special little treasures for the Titanic buff! Previously all we knew were black and white photographs and depictions, barely realizing that there was really color many years ago.

~ Wonderful Picture Book of the Titanic. Photos are Beautiful and Take You Right There! ~
This is a GREAT Titanic Picture book with interesting information pertaining to the photos. Our 7-year-old grand son is into ALL that is Titanic. I saw this lovely Titanic picture book and had to surprise him with it. He loves it and was just enjoying it again tonight at bedtime, which reminded me to review it so others can know how nice the photos are AND he loves hearing the information over and over again, although he can already tell us all about it, he loves to read and see more. Great book for your Titanic lovers, young AND old and everything in between!

Great Book for the Titanic Fanatic!!
My 5 year old son is CRAZY for Titanic history. This is the best Titanic book we've seen yet. The photos are great - and I love all of the little tidbits of interesting info. The best is the computer-generated recreations of the Titanic - you get a real feel for what the ship looked like. Appropriate for small kids, but adult friendly too!

... for my son for his 10th birthday and he loved the book
I got this for my son for his 10th birthday and he loved the book! He still reads it and pours every page of it! However, we couldn't get the Cd ROM to work for the tour; it loaded the images to our computer but we couldn't actually take a 3D tour, and that was extremely disappointing to me since that's one of the reason I purchased the book. Unfortunately, there is also not a lot of help (if any at all!) online as far as how to get the 3D tour to work on ones computer, and that is the ONLY reason I give it 3 stars. If the CD ROM wasn't a feature included, it would be 5 stars; but we couldn't get a major feature to work with the product and tech support is so hard to find (and I am not an inept tech person by any means). Overall, it's fantastic product with great information and fold outs that make my sons eyes light up with curiosity and anticipation of discovery for such an incredible ship, but I personally wouldn't count on the CD ROM feature.

Great for kids ages 6 and up, makes a nice gift in place of toys.
This was for our 6 year old grandson and he had previously checked this book out from the library. He was delighted to have this book for himself. The illustrations are fantastic and the cd included is fun for him to explore on the computer. I would highly recommend this book for all children interested in the Titanic.

well thought out book
I got this for my grandson who was very interested after reading the Magic Treehouse book. He is a good reader, but this is a bit hard for him with all the text. I would say that it would be perfect for a 9-10 year old. That said, he loves it. There are fold out pages and he proudly shows us what the ship looked like new and then at the back of the book, as it was sinking. I don't think his parents have even let him use the CD yet as he is young. Even though the text is hard, he knows a lot of facts already from the book.

Wonderful book especially for younger readers
I bought this book for my young nephews for Christmas and they loved it. It's full of information and has some great pictures. It also has a DVD just inside the front cover. Several members of my family looked at it and agreed it was a great book for anyone with an interest in the Titanic.

Brilliant resourse!
I bought this for my young daughter and she loves it. Excellent; fact-based and interesting. It was a great addition to her research of the whole Titanic story for her school project. A number of her friends have borrowed it; a definite must for Titanic fans.
