Bought three of this umbrella and all are defective
Imagine driving with this umbrella closed and all of the sudden the handle shoots up without touching the button. The smallest vibration caused it to open. If it wasnt Velcro shut the umbrella would have opened completely instead of hitting the passenger with the wooden handle which is a lawsuit ready to happenAll THREE of the same umbrella has this issue. Just wiggle it slightly and it opens without even touching the button.

Sturdy umbrella
Good umbrella, holds up to the wind. Keeps the rain off you. What else could you want?Just wish the button also closed it.

Manufacturing flaw in button release.
Turns out that the hole in the wood handled is not machined to the same specifications that the plastic/metal button is. On first use of pushing the button it got stuck in. Wiggling a long object, screwdriver inside the retracting slot wiggles it free. Had to disassemble wood handle from device (small screw on back) and then carve wood around the hole from 8oclock to 4oclock clockwise to clear the millimeter or less of wood causing the jam. Now it works, have not used in real world conditions yet.

Basic black umbrella - works great - Totes makes a good umbrella!
I own two of these Totes umbrellas. Living in Texas, it is rare that we need umbrellas, but sometimes almost seemingly out of nowhere we'll get some rain. This umbrella folds down to a very small size (for you ladies, it would require a fairly large purse to hold - is about 10 inches long). I keep one in my office, and one in the door pocket of my car. Totes umbrellas seem to hold up much better and are better constructed than generic brands; even in heavy wind and rain my Totes have not failed me as long as I am smart about the direction I hold the umbrella (as long as you don't go "Mary Poppins" and try to jump off a building with it, it should hold up well).Bottom line, this is a basic, black umbrella that is well made very handy to have - highly recommended!

Useful umbrella
This is a wonderful flip-out umbrella that folds to a very small size and can be carried in your brief case or handbag.Normally, I don't carry an umbrella at all, but when Amazon Vine offered a free Totes umbrella in exchange for an honest review, I decided to go for it.I am glad I did. The umbrella appears sturdy, unlikely to blow inside out as do far too many folding umbrellas, and its hood is water-resistant, so that the rain water does not wash through and drench the tent top.For those who need and want an umbrella of the folding variety, highly recommended.

Randomly opens, easily inverted by wind, dangerous
As soon as I received this umbrella, I walked over to put it in my car. Unbeknownst to me, I hadn't bought an umbrella, but instead a dangerous weapon. For as I was walking, it suddenly opened, thrusting the handle into my stomach in an act of unintentional seppuku. Thinking I must have pressed the button accidentally, I closed it again and put it down inside my car. I picked it up again to move it, being careful to keep my hands away from the button, and it exploded open again.Despite this half-comical, half-dangerous flaw, I continued to use the weapon over the next couple of days to shield myself from the constant rain. But it would still often attack whomever was nearby, sometimes when touched, sometimes when alone -- at my office or at home. Finally, after only a week of owning this monster, it finally came apart during one of its spontaneous fits of rage. I was hoping I could take this opportunity to address the engineering flaw, but the force of the explosion was so intense that it bent more parts than I wanted to bother realigning.Don't buy this junk product.

Great Product
Typical well-made Totes umbrella. We have always bought Totes over many decades.

It's okay . . .
Everything was ok, until it opened on its own. Just a light tap (not the button) and the little too powerful spring opened and it will hurt if the handle hits you. Further digging concludes that the plastic mechanism and the button inside has too much friction with the wood causing the plastic latch to not fully latch all the way. Could be the wooden handle expending after leaving the factory from moisture, since this after all is an umbrella. If you really want this umbrella just make sure to add oil or some sand paper to make the hole of the button not so tight.I wish QC was a stricter, other than that it's a strong (slightly on the heavier side) umbrella.
