Excellent Study Bible
Excellent study bible. Uses the latest version of NAB text. Found NO unorthodox issues with notes or articles and NO DENIAL of Christ as one reviewer claims. Uses latest scholarship (as accepted by the Catholic Church) in articles and have no problem with the use of BCE/CE (neither does the Catholic Church) because it is the common manner of historical reference and has been for years (in spite of one reviewer's complaint). Use in my RCIA classes and recommend to ANY Catholic, new or old. Do have one complaint that applies to ALL bibles in general that are published these days... THIN PAPER. The answer, as far a writing on such thin pages (YES Virginia, I make notes on the pages of my Bible! Why do some folks find this so scandalous?) is to use pencils. I use colored dry pencils like these Sandford Bible Highlighter Kit - 4 Colors Dry Pencil Non-Bleed

Scholarly Update
I actually bought this book for an inmate in the Lake County Jail, Tavares FL---at his request. I confess, I had not heard of this edition of the Bible. Browsing it, I am determined to get a copy for myself. It is a scholarly update---100 introductory pages of essays by well-regarded experts in Biblical criticism---that is timely and inspirational. My man went off to prison with it, I hope.

Newly edited study bible
This edition of the Bible contains a treasure trove of useful and interesting information about biblical subjects written by a variety of outstanding Scripture scholars. It will be attractive to both scholars and general readers who love the Bible and want to know more about its origins, context, meaning and interpretation.

Awesome volume, though does have some major limitations.
CONS: It is getting 4 stars, as the paper could be more opaque, and the font could be larger, especially the footnotes. A simple way to do this would be to take the printing plates, or PDF files used by the printer and output on 8 1/2 X 11, (Standard sized printer paper) that would end up with a much larger font, yet the same number of pages. Or at least offer one that has a 12 point, sans serif font, as that would be easer to read, with the footnotes in at least a 9 point sans serif font as that would be much easer to read when you don't have bright lighting. I am older, and like larger fonts, but find it a pain in the rear to constantly have to carry a page magnifier to read footnotes. Enlarge the font, and it would get a full 5 stars.PROS:1. Love the listing of books of Holy Bible on front and rear flyleaves, but one could be in Biblical order.2. Lectionary guide for Sundays, where are the weekdays.Beautiful maps... this is another area where a larger book would make for easer reading.3. Durable cover vs. just a cheep cardboard cover.4. In text images5. Copious footnotes, though in a tiny font.
