Silly Billy

Helped our Daughter through some tough times.
Our 5 year old daughter was having a lot of issues where she would worry about the most random things, which I understand is very common at that age. It seems like she was becoming hyper aware of things around here and it was becoming overwhelming to her. Much like the parents in this book, we would try to convince her not to worry so much about all these little things, but it is really difficult to convince a child not to do something through pure logic. So we turned to this book for a little help.As for the book, it is a cute story where a boy that would worry about everything visited his grandmother for a sleepover, and learned from her some ways to cope with the worry. His grandmother had similar problems when she was a child and she showed Billy how she dealt with them with the help of some worry dolls. They made several worry dolls for him tell his concerns to and then put under his pillow and they would do the worrying for Billy. This helped for a while but he then began to worry that the worry dolls had too much to worry about so he made worry dolls for the worry dolls. The silliness of that situation helps ease the issue. At the end of the book, there are a ton of worry dolls and everyone felt better. It is cute and simple concept that children can understand and grab onto. We coupled this book with a doll that my daughter could put under her pillow.Overall, while I'm not saying that this book is a cure, it can be considered another tool to use for these kind of issues. It seemed to help and, if nothing else, is was a cute story to read.

The wisdom of his Grandmother intervenes through the action of the original super heroes traditional to Guatemalan culture
One of my all time favorites as a read aloud for many ages. There is a bit of Billy inside all of us whatever the age. Lying awake, worries visit in the dark and cause Billy to cycle through all kinds of possibilities that keep him awake and alert well into the night. The wisdom of his Grandmother intervenes through the action of the original super heroes traditional to Guatemalan culture, worry dolls. The illustrations are so toned to Billy's mood and his grandmother's guidance you will look back and reread many times. A timeless story for children of all ages.

Very sweet introduction to worry dolls
It's a very sweet book that helps worried little ones get used to having a worry doll. Or dolls.

Explanation of "Worry Dolls" from Guatamala
I thought this was a great concept: take an issue with some children (being afraid of the dark), include a Guatamalan grandmother and some worry dolls, add in some great illustrations, and you've got yourself a great little book for kids! I know a teacher who uses this book at school for 1st graders to explain the history behind worry dolls, and she loves it. The illustrations are beautiful and very engaging for the reader and listener. Really, a fantastic gem of a book.
