Great vacuum for high traffic households
This is our third vacuum in about 3 years. We have previously purchased Bissell (a cordless stuck vacuum we loved) and Eureka (scratched the floor after a few uses and we returned). This Dirt Devil vacuum has been perfect. We have a "high traffic" household, with two kids and two dogs. We live in Florida, so there is a lot of sand that gets tracked in as well. We have hardwood floors and area rugs. This vacuum is powerful, with great suction for both surfaces. But not so much that our rugs are aucked up into the machine when vacuuming them. The attachments work great, the upholstery attachment was a must and it cleans the pet hair and things off the couch in a few passes. Another bonus is that you can rinse the filter. Every time we use this vacuum it picks up so much sand and dust and fills the canister. Cord is long so you don't have to reposition often. I love that the switch to turn on the vacuum and engage the brush are on the top of the canister and not a foot pedal. There are only a few things to note that could be cons for this vacuum. First is it's loud, which doesn't bother us but should be noted. It also throws out hot air from the motor. Again not a huge deal but something to note. Overall we are so happy with this vacuum and would purchase Dirt Devil products again.

With a little help from a friend
The media could not be loaded. Alright, this lasted a solid 2 years. We have pets so I expected the vacuum to die internally before this happened. The wheel fell off. It’s plastic on plastic so obviously it wore out and popped off, there is no way to pop it back on. That said, see attached photo of a beautiful fix my fiancé came up with. It’s gonna keep going for years to come 🤞

Best vacuum
Cleans great I bought new carpet and it sucked up the fuzz that was left on it.

Great to start; no lasting quality
I have 4 dogs. I’ll start with that. One is an Aussie shepherd, and he sheds like a monster in the Texas heat. 2 dogs are terrier mixes with short hair, and the 4th is an aging poodle who loses hair frequently. I vacuum 3-4 times a week. I bought this as a replacement for a Dyson that lasted 10 years under varying pet hair conditions. At first, I was impressed with how well it handled the dog hair, and how smooth the swivel head was. It’s low profile, so it’s easy to get under things. There’s the good.About a month into this, the roller suddenly stopped. I called Dirt Devil to get some idea what was wrong, and for a possible replacement. They were no help, and replacing the roller would have cost me $54 plus shipping. I decided to take it apart instead, and do some of my own troubleshooting. I found that while I had frequently dumped the compartment and cleaned the filters, hair built up on the side of the roller and melted against the metal, forming a kind of glue that held parts in place that were meant to move. It also produced a horrible smell. The roller worked after I cleaned it off, so I limped along, and cleaned the roller and filters frequently. Sometimes I had to clean it in the middle of vacuuming 1900 square feet, even though I had cleaned it after the last vacuuming. This went on for about a year, when suddenly the roller stopped again. I ended up taking much more of the vacuum apart, and found that pet hair gets in so many nooks and crannies in this machine, and any one of them is a ticking time bomb waiting to explode. I forgot to mention that it frequently shut down because the motor overheats. It just can’t take my pets.Maybe it’s me, but I spent a little more on a Bissell Pet Hair Eraser Turbo, and I am MUCH happier. My opinion is: this vacuum has no business being marketed as a viable pet vacuum. You need something better sealed, with fewer crevices that pet hair can clog. It’s cheap compared to others, but you really get what you pay for here. It works for a little while, but dies too quickly to be worth the money. It’s too much of a hassle to be worth your time.

Well thought out design, easy to use and powerful for it's size
**Update - Just happened across this review on 10/24/2020 and wanted to add an update to mention I'm still using this vacuum and it's still just as good. Had to disassemble all of the hoses once to find and fix a cardboard clog, but that took all of 20 minutes, was a super easy fix and it's the only real issue I've had with it.**I really like this vacuum so far. It has good suction, it has good maneuverability and fits well into small or low clearance areas. What makes it stand out to me though is the hose configuration. On most upright vacuums when using the hose the handle of the vacuum tends to smack into you when you stretch the hose out to it's limit while while vacuuming and it yanks the thing towards you. Since the hose on the DD is also the upright handle the vacuum is much more stable and easier to manage when using the hose, reminiscent of a canister vacuum. Plus it snaps right back in which is so much easier than my old upright. I didn't think that the brush auto-stop feature would be that big of a deal, but it is actually really nice that it turns off automatically when using the hose, or manually with a switch otherwise. The canister is easy to empty as well, my only issue with that is it can fill up pretty fast and I do wish that the cruft that is around the filter would come out more easily since being able to empty that easily that would give you a bit more capacity.. As it is the lip at the bottom of the filter output that leads into the cannister tends to hold a lot of debris in, especially if you have pets like me and have a lot of fur to deal with. Because of the lip that part doesn't drop into the canister until it gets pushed out by more debris, so when emptying it you either have to leave it in there, which means you'll be emptying it again that much sooner, reach up in there and pull it out, or also remove the filter to get it out. It's not a big problem though, because it is very easy to empty what is in the canister already with the quick release. Any way you look at it, it's not nearly as much of a hassle as emptying my old vacuum which would rain debris from the filter down on me when trying to change it.One more con, the storage attachments for the hose accessories are only really good for storage and are crap when you are actually using the vacuum. When I try to actually vacuum with them on they fall off quickly. Even if they stayed on the relatively large and heavy mini vacuum attachment clips to the hose/handle and trying to use the hose with it stored there makes it unreasonably cumbersome to use, so even if stayed on reliably I would still have to remove it to use the hose. It's still overall a five star vacuum so far though, I just hope to maybe see some of this improve in newer models.I've never invested in an expensive vacuum like a Dyson so I can't compare it to that, but of all the reasonably priced uprights I've had so far it's my new favorite.

I CAN'T WAIT FOR NEXT WEEK SO I CAN VACUUM AGAIN
I don't normally write reivews, but I absolutely had to for this.OKAY. So I just got this bad boy. L I T E R A L L Y just got it like 20 minutes ago. My friend had lent me her vacuum when I moved in to my place back in April since it had carpet and I was super broke, and I contented myself with it because hey! its a vacuum I can use. It was kinda hard to use, and it kept spitting all the garbage back out the minute I'd even try to lift it a little and it was annoying, but I dealt with it. Fast forward some months, and I'm super sick and tired of strategizing my vacuumming to always end at the kitchen so I can sweep whatever the thing spat out, and so I go looking for some cheap options, and I find this little dude. I'm still on a tight budget, but I thought heck lets go for it. Everyone seems to like it, maybe it'll be worth spending a little more on a unit but waayyy below the $400+ Dysons.WELL.As of right now, I'm SUPER impressed. I'm both disgusted at what came out of my carpet and absolutely satisfied. There was stuff in the cannister I didn't even realized existed in my carpet, which then leads me to shudder at the thought of my lying down on it from time to time since it was in fact EXTREMELY polluted and might explain why it always felt so stuffy in here.Needless to say: I hated vacumming before, but I got excited to do so immediately when I cracked the box open.First off, it moves like a dream. You wouldn't think a vacuum could move so smoothly, but it does. I even started dancing with it a little as I had my music playing, which I could still here even over the sound of the vacuum. Its by no means quiet but it was enough that it didn't make my hamster freak out like the old one did. The suction is intense; I don't even have a pet (yet) that sheds but I got it with that in mind for the future and I can definitely see this thing haul pet hair like a pro. I mean it got all of mine, and I didn't even realize there was any hair laying around. That photo is from the first pass. That's nothing compared to what the old vacuum would pick up. In fact, that's actually more than the 6 months combined and I kid you not, because I still haven't thrown that cannister out cause it never sucked anything up! I showed my friend and she doesn't even want her own vacuum back LOL!!! My favorite part though, was the dumping of the gross. One button that opend up the cannister at the bottom. Didn't have to get my hands dirty, didn't have to touch anything or wrestle it out or shake it, just open and it all comes out. A++ design. Super into it.Anyway. I'll update this if it changes, but for now, I'm absolutely in love with this vacuum!!!

Great Upright Vacuum
Bought this vacuum to replace a Hoover that died, and am generally very happy with it. it is much lighter than my old upright, far easier to carry up to a second floor, head is more streamline - swivels & moves really well, and will fit under edge of sofa, works well on carpet & bare floors ( with power bar off) . Cleans well at walls edge, great suction, easy bin to clean out. I would have given 5 stars except it lacks in a couple of areas: 1) poorly weighted, falls over easily especially when using extension hose, and 2) this extension hose & attachments are a bit short, I will use longer crevice tool I have on hand. 3) I wished it had a light on vacuum head. All in all a very compact powerful vacuum, amazing suction & easy handling makes it a great overall upright vacuum
