Merrick Grain Free Dry Dog Food Recipes, Turkey, 4 Pound

My dog has been eating this kind of food for a long time and I've never had any issues. Since I recently got Amazon Prime I thought I'd order this food off of Amazon. I noticed the food kernels looked a little different and didn't smell as fishy but didn't think anything of it. After feeding my dog dinner she be came violently ill the next day. She couldn't hold her bowel movements and had diarrhea all over my bed comforter, carpet etc. Assuming she ate something outside she ate this food again that night. Again, the next day was even worse and she was extremely sick. After thinking about the only thing that I had changed was a new bag of food, I went to the store and got the same bag of food. The kernels looked how they were supposed to and smelled the same as I remember. She is now on the mend but still weak and I threw away this dog food I ordered off of Amazon. I'm not one to usually write reviews, but after seeing my dog so ill, I wouldn't recommend ordering this brand of dog food from Amazon. I'm not sure if it was just a bad bag or if it was just Merrick's fault, but I will not be ordering this from Amazon again.

I have been buying this same dog food from Amazon for a LONG time, but this last batch I bought made my dog very sick!! Will never buy the dog food from Amazon again.

My Westie has skin allergies and a sensitive stomach. I thought this higher-end, limited ingredient dog food would be perfect for her. She never liked the taste of it and it actually made her very sick. It was gradual, but over a 2 month period her stool became very loose. She had also been vomiting and eating grass constantly. She was shedding like crazy and in her 9 years, she had never lost her fur like this. Towards the end of the 2 months she had terrible diarrhea with blood. She was so sick we had to take her to the emergency vet. We have since changed her food to a different brand and she is doing great. The diarrhea has stopped, as well as the vomiting and shedding. Her stool is firm again and she loves her new food. I hope this review helps someone think twice about giving this food to their dog. I definitely don’t recommend it.

Same story as a few other bad reviews of this food... We started buying this over a year ago from a local pet store because it contained Salmon/Sweet Potato, which is supposed to help shedding. However, this most recent bag we bought from Amazon has made our dog very sick -- vomiting 4-5 days in a row that he consumed it. Paid $200+ for an x-ray because we thought he swallowed a toy, but we've narrowed it down to the food because he is having no issues since we've changed his food (we had success for a few days with a bland diet, put him back on this food and he vomited again). I agree with another post regarding the "fish" smell not being as strong in this Amazon bag vs one from our pet store -- perhaps the formula is different or remains in the warehouse longer? Regardless, we're switching up his food. Buy at your own risk.

You hear so much about the stuff their putting in our dogs food and it's very scary. My little Shih-Tzu who refused dog food had been on a home cooked diet for six years and was doing great. The problem was I got to thinking about it and was asking myself if something happened to me or there was some kind of emergency who would cook for him? So I started researching dry dog foods to find the best one to supplement his diet, so there wouldn't be any tummy problems if he had to eat a dry food. We tried a few different brands and he wouldn't even touch them. Then I came across Merrick brand. I read all I could find on the company and how they make their dog food. I liked what I read. So we got a small bag from the pet store and tried it out. I believe it was the Beef and sweet Potato. He ate a few pieces as a treat and then I started putting a few pieces at a time mixed in with his food. He spit it out a few times but then started picking it back up and eating it. Something he never did with any of the other brands. He has been eating Merrick food for two years now and is healthy and happy at eating time. We mix the Beef, the Pork and the Duck together in containers so there's always a mixture of different foods in his bowl. My dog does not tolerate grains so this is a great food for him. We also just got a little rescue dog and he loves this food. They will come and find you at dinner time so I guess they like what their eating.

All the other flavors tend to have a lot of "seasoning" at the bottom of the bag, most of which tend to be really rich in oils and can upset a sensitive dog's stomach (in my experience) - ironically it is the duck flavor which has the best consistency, the pellets are a little harder but the kibble shape is uniform and the bottom of the bag is never filled with crumbs at the end of each bag. My dog stopped getting acid reflux as soon as we switched back to the duck flavor. Shame I can't find the duck at Petco/Petsmart - I'm hoping Amazon doesn't discontinue stocking this.

My dog has several different food and environmental allergies. Sick of spending tons of money on dog food you can only buy at the vet (Hill's) I was looking for something that would fit my pup's needs. Merrick is it! She loves the food, scarfing it down as soon as I put it in her bowl. That was not the case with her last food. After a short adjustment period, her poops are together and well formed. Her body is not as itchy or uncomfortable as before. This food really works!

It seemed like every other week my dogs were sick. Puking, diarrhea, and always tired. After a few trips to the vet (who said nothing was wrong) and lab tests, I decided to try changing their food. I'm glad I did. I noticed a change in both dogs within 2 days. Normal bowel movements, full of life, and ever their coats are softer and shinier! They love this food too. They would just stare at their old food and wait til they were starving before they ate it. Now I barely get the bowl on the floor before they start inhaling it! I would recommend this food to anyone who is having digestive issues with their dogs. It is also pretty reasonably priced. Thank you Merrick!
