Happy enough with it that when my original one died, I replace it with the same model
Replaced my 5-year old controller that died from a close lighting strike. This is a good unit that is easy to program and the price was right on Amazon. It was a like-for-like swap, so installation was a breeze. Just be sure you select the one with the correct number of zones. There are plenty of online videos on how to select watering days, hours and answer any questions you might have. I even added the Rain-Bird WiFi link so I can control my system from my phone from anywhere.

Not what you may expect
This is a great unit BUT you must determine what kind of installation you wish. If you are mounting the unit on an interior wall to replace an existing unit - it's basically plug and play. You may have to play around with the wall mounting as the footprint may differ from your existing unit. Connect the station wiring, plug in the wall plug and away you go. No futher considerations are necessary. With an exterior unit with power from a circuit breaker box, things get a little more interesting. Our power was run through conduit to the breaker box. The station wiring run through conduit to the controller box. And of course, the footprint was not identical. So, to tackle the power conduit issue, I took a step drill and opened up the inlet such that I could then just insert the conduit and run up the nut. The station wiring conduit of course was a different size so it just slid into place with no issue. It's going to require a run to Home Depot to find a electric box nut of appropriate size to properly secure the fitting. Not quite the 15 minute install some would have you believe but completely doable without too many expletives. Nice to have items: 1. Battery operated drill 2. Step drill 3. Contractor electric box fittings 4. Larger wall inserts for unit mounting The WIFI unit arrives tomorrow, this is supposedly plug and play. Should automatically find the WIFI channel and log into weather to determine the variables for auto ON/OFF. According to the manufacturer, the weather login negates the requirement for a remote rain sensor, they are supposedly antiquated technology. In any case, we were adivised not to spend the additional monies. This is a step up in technology - should be fun.

Good but weak display
Simple easy installation. I have 4 stations so only 5 wires to connect. One common and 4 station wires. Be sure to read instructions and connect to correct terminals. One weakness is the display which is not that legible in ordinary light. I thought at first the unit had a problem but youtube videos show same weakness. You CAN see the display but it could be much better so Rain Bird please take notice.

Very good, full capability irrigation controller
I like this controller. I had a Toro brand which was wonky from day one with buttons that were glitchy and just constantly frustrating me. This one is appropriate for outdoor application and the buttons and other settings are clear, responsive to touch, and easy to understand. There is one small difference between this and other controller brands in the way the start times are set, so read the instructions and don't assume it is the same as other brands you may be familiar with. Rainbird customer assistance kindly pointed me to the error of my ways in that regard and yes, they actually answered the phone. I am a senior, non-handy woman and managed to install this myself in just a few minutes with the help of an online video. It took me longer to remove the old unit. Seriously. While my needs are simple and I don't need wifi and apps on my irrigation controller, know that you can also upgrade this to have wifi capability if you are unsure about whether to purchase the wifi model upfront.

Perfect replacement & Easy to install
Purchased this as a replacement for the same name brand controller box that died on me. I ordered this thinking, I would have to hard wire the power cord. While not difficult it was nice not having to kill power to wire in the power cord from my previous controller. Only had to hook up the wires to control my four zones, plug it in and done!!!!!!! Working like a champ

Easy to set up
It was time for a new controller so we got this one. Hubby had no problems with it like the last one we had. We live in the desert and an HOA community and have to set it to certain times and days during the year. No more going to the computer to remember how do that.
