I haven't installed the smoke detectors yet, but the setup of the smart batteries (for install in my existing detectors until I install the ones from Roost) are what prompted me to write this review. Initial setup instructions were easy to follow, but multiple failed attempts to register the batteries resulted in an email to Roost's customer service. According to the serial numbers on the batteries, I had the outdated versions that wouldn't register . Roost promptly sent two replacement batteries free of charge. Setup on the new batteries went smoothly, but I immediately got a low battery alert on both. Another email to customer support (and they replied on a weekend, kudos for that!) and I was told it was an initial error message that had since cleared up. According to the app on my phone, everything is functioning normally now. The batteries do what they're supposed to do, but their customer service department went above and beyond. Buy with confidence.

The smart battery that came with device is not good and can not be programmed to hook to your phone to receive alerts. The battery I received was a old generation smart battery had to order a newer one which cost as much as the device.

Peace of mind... well designed also!
Very happy with my purchase. I was a little confused when trying to disconnect the smoke detector from the base, but after 10 min, I figured it out. Look under the detector, and it's only the small circular interior plastic that comes loose.Install was a little tough, but worked out fine. This is the 1st gen battery. It does not create an access point, and your phone must send tones to configure the device. Mine didn't work the first time, so I had to disconnect the bottom plate from the battery. Reconnected it, battery beeped, then it accepted the config.
