Generic Replacement Lamp - Replaces Samsung BP96-01653A with Housing 6,000 Hour Life

Prior to buying I read the reviews and considered them helpful but no one really raved about the product. They seemed hesitate and waiting for the blub to stop working. I could identify with the feeling, this will be my 3 bulb/lamp in 6 months. The first one lasted at least 5 years with moderate to heavy use. With the lackluster responses, I rationalized that it was worth giving it a go for the $35 (+tax & deleivery) since I had paid $200.00 (lamp+installer) The 3rd lamp went out within a couple of weeks and replaced for free from the company I had placed the service call. Now about the product. The casing was not as well built as the first lamps, the handle to hold onto while you install the unit is hard to hold. The other casing had a hard plastic which is part of the casing. This one was a wire that clipped on the cases so it folds flat and doesn't give you the leverage needed to install. The rubber wrapped around the wires were thicker which also made it harder to install. The thicker wire didn't quite fit the piece that hold the plug and that serves to help you slide into the guide so you could "plug it in." Obviously I'm not a real handy or know all the techo-terms. Instructions were inclosed which were just 3 pictures. It would have been helpful if one of the pictures showed which way the device was suppose to be turn. Anyway, what should have taken me 30 seconds (that's how long for professional repair person) it took 5 minutes. Why I gave it 4 stars, because I saved myself $165.00, and I did it myself. If the lamp last as long as the 1st one, I'll come back in and give it 5. If it doesn't...again did I say I saved myself $165.00.

For the price point this has been a great lamp. It has extended the life of our TV by three and a half years. I have bought this lamp multiple times now, let me elaborate. Our original lamp went out in Aug 2013 which is when I first bought one of these replacements. That lasted us until Sept of 2014. That lamp unfortunately was a dud and only lasted two months, I bought another in Nov 2014 and it has lasted until Dec 2016. I'd say all in all I am satisfied. When we first bought the lamp I think it was around $40, but now it's half that. To me, what we have spent is not bad for not having to replace the TV. I don't know how much longer an OEM lamp would last, but I have no complaints with this generic.Edited in Nov 2017: I changed this to 3 stars. The lamp I bought in Dec 2016 only lasted until July. The next one burned out by Oct. I got the 4 yr protection plan for a few dollars with my most recent lamp purchase, we will see if that ends up being a hassle. The generic lamp prices have gone way down, and so have the OEM prices. But the OEM reviews weren’t significantly better than the generic reviews, so I got another generic this time. If this one burns out quickly and it’s a hassle to replace with the protection plan I’ll probably go back to OEM. Replacing the lamp every 3-6 months with generic isn’t really saving money at this point.

I am renewing this post as I received the original replacement lamp ( thanks to amazon.com) and still having the same problem. After checking on the internet I have found out that it is the dlp chip that is causing the problem. This problem occurs due to dust on the chip and requires replacing the chip. I hope this helps others to get to the solution quicker.This is a follow up to a review of this bulb. As many of the reviews stated it will get lots of white spots over the tv screen. After a couple of months of use that's what mine did. Mine looks like the milky way! I had purchased a bulb from amazon several years earlier and it worked great but I was unable to find the same bulb again. It was an original bulb from Samsung so I guess I am going to have to go to their web site and order an original. Waiting on customer service to get back with me about the issue as I could not find how to return it because it was out of their 30 day return policy. Giving it 2 stars because of amazons great returns and customer support. We will see how the seller will act upon this issue. I will write another review on this after it is worked out. Wish me luck.PS.. This bulb was originally offered by Bulb World and I just got my review in my e-mail and noticed that this is being offered by a completely different company.PSS... Just received a return label from Amazon. I just love this company :). I plan on looking for the original replacement bulb now. Thank you Amazon.com

I purchased this lamp April 21, 2013 and received it in 2 days! I wondered if this lamp (with proper housing) would work because it was packed in a large box with NO PACKING! and the small box the lamp was in had a lot of space to bump around!! BUT it worked just fine .. I will update on how long it lasts.NOTE: Before you remove original lamp, study the 2 metal clips that hold the Lamp Housing inside and how you need to put them back to lock the new housing/lamp in ... and make sure you put the outside cover back in properly as there are connectors and a switch that have to be in contact for the whole DLP TV to work again. Wow - it looks like a new TV again - Nice!UPDATE - 12 days later - Lamp is still good, had this Samsung HL-T5075S DLP TV for 5 years and this is the third lamp. The original one lasted 3 years, the second one 2 years... Hoping this one lasts more that that! Especially after the poor packing. I will continue to update.BTW - a tip to those whose lamps burn out too quickly - the original instructions for DLP TVs is NOT to turn the TV back on right away - but to wait for the lamp to cool down for a few extra minutes, I can hear the cooling fan turn off when properly cooled - this is true for any type of product that has a bright light in it.
