Excellent review of battery technology
When I first saw this on PBS, I knew I had to get a copy of it. This video gives an excellent review of the technology behind lithium ion batteries and their limitations (think exploding phones and hoverboards) as well as the importance of batteries for making alternate energy sources like wind and solar more useful. It also explores some really interesting new battery technologies. The narrator (David Pogue) does a great job making the subject engaging and entertaining. I will be showing this video in my chemistry classes when we study electrochemistry.

A fireproof I-Phone is in our future!
Portable electricity is necessary to civilization. In recent iterations involving lithium, it's been an efficient, but limited and somewhat dangerous tool.Search for the Super Battery explains why this is and presents advances and alternatives in battery technology that augers well for the future. A celebration of inventiveness and the 'bright' future ahead.

One of the best NOVA ever done.
I thought I was up to date with batteries, but I was not. Shows proof that the present design of lithium cells is awful, a hazard, and no wonder that fire fighters do not want to put out burning electric cars. New designs are shown that solve the explosion problems. Awesome science and engineering.

I'm glad it's closed captioned though
It's a gift for someone else. I'm glad it's closed captioned though. This was one of my favorite episodes of the year because of my interest in all things electronic.

Really good documentary.
This documentary talks about climate change, battery power and how to make batteries safer. The documentary host is David Pogue. The 1 hour long documentary contains lots of video of exploding batteries, cell phones and even android recall. This documentary also talks about a new battery invented a few years ago that does not explode even if you take a screw driver and smash the battery with it. Really good documentary.

Future options.
Gave a good explanation of why the current types of batteries used in items like cellphones occasionally explode as well as highlighting some developing options for future large-storage applications.
