Not his best stuff - don't judge him by this book.
As a Keillor connoisseur, I can honestly say I did not enjoy this compilation of random stories as much as many of his other collections. I am hoping new readers do not begin and end with this book, thinking this is it. The stories are clearly dug up from his personal archives, some being, now, 40 years old. He was just getting his legs as the genius writer he ultimately became. Keillor strives for a folksiness that really doesn't suit his authentic voice. You may recognize a couple of the tales re-vamped (and so much better crafted the second time) for use in the world of Wobegon. Then, there is the nascent Guy Noir hidden somewhere in a truly puzzling piece about a private eye who also finds grants for local art projects. HUH? Archetypical characters you find with lesser writers abound. Maybe it’s me, but the baseball pieces are a snooze too. However, I am very glad I read it. If you want to appreciate the trajectory of an artist maturing into greatness, this isn't a bad place to begin! A must for Keillor library collections everywhere.

ANOTHER WINNER FROM THE MASTER OF THE SMALL TOWN
This is one of Keillor's earliest books. It is quite charming, well written, and will (I think) appeal to all Garrison Keillor fans

Tales from Lake Woebegone..
Who could not be amused and entertained by Garrrison Keillor and his sharp wit? ideal reading during a pandemic with lockdowns and social distancing. Just what this doctor ordered.

A very funny book - read it!
This was, I believe, his first book, but the writing style doesn't seem to have changed much as the years have passed. I claim the title of #1 Garrison Keillor Fan in the known Universe (if you're inventing a title for yourself, why be modest?), so I may just possibly be a bit prejudiced, but his style of humor is something that possibly not everyone will enjoy as much as I do, but I find it really, REALLY great!

Vintage Keillor!
If you enjoy reading Keillor, you'll enjoy this book. Not every story resonates with me...but the overall level of writing and humor is top notch. The book was advertised as used...but it was like new. If you like to laugh...you'll like the book.

Great for actors
This collection has some passages that can be used for audition monologues. As most actors know, funny audition material is hard to come by.
