Arrived DOA. Vendor does not want to pay for shipping it back. Choose any other vendor than this
This was the second Buffalo TeraStation ordered. The first vendor had incorrect description in the Amazon article. We wanted a unit with a pair of 8TB drives to give us 8TB or mirrored capacity and room to add more drives in the future. The unit received had 4 drives of 4TB each giving the 16TB of capacity but no room to add additional drives. The description of the article was incorrect. It was returned using a preprinted label from the vendor. It seems the various vendors may not be stocking these and are just having them drop shipped by a distributor. I think this because of the 2 unfortunate experiences. This unit, the 2nd unit, was received and was left in the original box while waiting for other items as part of the installation. When first turned on it gave several errors. One message said Drive 3 of 4 was not found. The next message said the RAID array could not be mounted. Following guidance from the website and manual, it said to restart and see if it would detect the missing drive. It did not. I opened the locked front door to check if the drive was there. It was.I shut the unit down. As the drive is in a hot swap cage. I used the eject lever to eject the drive. I then re-inserted it to confirm that it seated correctly. It did. I closed the door and restarted. Same errors were reported.I boxed the unit in the original factory box. I requested a return. Some 40 hours later I got a return authorization telling me to ship the Dead On Arrival unit back at my expense. I should not be responsible for shipping back a DOA unit. Am waiting to hear from seller.. If they insist I pay for the return shipping, I will file a request with my credit card company to refund the money paid. After that I will wait for the seller to decide how they are going to get the unit back. The seller may be sourcing the product from D&H Distributing. D&H is the address that the seller wants the unit returned to. Until they give me a prepaid shipping label or a shipping company account number, it will stay in storage.Overall I would suggest you choose either another brand of Network Attached Storage, or certainly another vendor.I will update if the vendor gets back to me.I keep a complete copy of correspondence with Amazon and the vendor to ensure there is NO misunderstanding.Edit 12 April 2022So some time later the vendor realized that the unit was defective and sent a prepaid shipping label to return the defective goods. The goods were received by them and a full refund has been received by me.When they understood clearly that the device was dead on arrival and that it would not properly power up, they were helpful in resolving the issue.

Easy setup and compact
Works great, I not to loud but you can hear the fan noise. I found the setup easy and was able to setup folder shares on the network with quota so that one user can not take all the space.

Support for business customers is laughable
We use this as additional storage for our production file server. The enclosure completely died yesterday and my other Buffalo Terastation had a single drive failure. Buffalo told us they would get back to us within 24-48 hours. If you are using this for business, make sure it is for a non-critical system because if something goes wrong, there is little urgency to get you back online.

Just when you thought you were running out of storage space
This NAS comes with 4 bays filled and 4 bays with trays ready to add more. The system is very simple to set up, include the ability to become your own private cloud storage unit and can link with others to create a large capacity storage system.Includes TrendMicro NAS AV which is a plus but you'll need to purchase a license separately (BHPhoto). Its fast, has 2 GB Ethernet ports with a 10gb versatile port. Highly recommended for the movie buff to store all your movies and much more.
