Would this work for kids clothes?

Tension rods come in various sizes from very short to very long extension. This particular tension rod is much too short for a shower curtain. Try looking for a tension shower rod. You can usually find them at the Dollar Tree and 99 cent stores. I use them all the time and they have very strong hold.

Seller should probably change the "22lb" weight capacity on the listing if on the actual product it says 1.1-2.2lb max??

I wouldn't trust holding up 22 lbs. I used them for holding a corner piece of glass in the bathroom and to hold the insulation between the 16 in. ceiling jousts in the garage, I would think 2.2 lbs. sounds reasonable.
