Encanto: Music from the Motion Picture Soundtrack

Maybe not for piano students
I have many Hal Leonard Disney books, and have been anxiously waiting for this one to come out. After playing through it once, I think the arrangements are nice, and enjoy the full-color stills from the movie at the beginning. However, I want to give a caution for people thinking of buying this for their children in piano lessons. This music is maybe advanced intermediate. Some of the songs are difficult to play because of the syncopation of the music. But two of the songs are difficult because of the key signatures (which could easily have been changed by the editor). The Family Madrigal is in D flat major (5 flats), and What Else Can I Do? is in B major (5 sharps).

Terrible Quality
This book was poorly produced - pages weren't cut correctly, weren't even all the same length within the book, and an entire song's worth of pages were still attached at the top (and trying to tear them apart ruined those pages). Seller's return policy is ridiculous. Buy elsewhere!

Fun music; not too hard, but an octave off
The music is in the original key as the songs in the movie (which I always appreciate), but many of the singer’s lines are an octave too high. It’s not too difficult to take them down the octave, but I just think it’s strange they would write it up really high when it doesn’t need to be. Most people’s voice range includes a low G and not a high G. (See pic of last page of Waiting on a Miracle as an example.)Dos Orguitas is in there twice—once in Spanish and once in English. But the music is exactly the same. There are some funky rhythms but I’m not a perfectionist pianist so I’m okay with approximate rhythms. :) I bought the book for singing and it’s fun to sing!

Faithful to soundtrack
All of the music is faithful to the soundtrack. Some songs could use some added percussion but that’s not really in the scope of a piano/vocal/guitar book.Unlike some of the other reviewers, I very much appreciate that all of the songs are in their original keys from the movie as it is aggravating when songs published in collections like this are transposed to an “easier” key.Now I’m just hoping for a version that reproduces the accompaniment as is without the melody in the right hand throughout.
