Essential Baby: Over 20 Handknits to Take Your Baby from First Days to First Steps

I thought many patterns looked practical. The instructions on the cardigan I chose were good. I used an acrylic baby yarn so the cardigan would be user friendly. It was no problem to convert from wool to acrylic, although I made sure the weight numbers matched.

I love the patterns in this book! I took it out from the library originally and found myself renewing is way to much, decided to finally buy it. The patterns are easy to follow(as long as you are experienced at reading them) and offered many size options. I seem to have a lot of people around me having babies right now including myself and a homemade sweater is just a really great gift. Most of the sweater patterns can be used for boy or girl with yarn color choices. I have been very happy with this purchase, I have not used so many of the patterns from other books in the past. It was good to find one that I have made so may things from.

I'm a big fan of Debbie Bliss yarns and patterns. This book had lots of interesting patterns. Have not had a chance to make anything yet, but looking forward to making something from this book.

These pieces are both practical and done in a design style that I love, minimalist. No fluff and puff, just elegant, simple stitches that will help you create some essential pieces that are heirloom quality. Love this book, definitely a go to for baby knitting patterns.

I have made nearly all of the patterns

Have been trying to find a pattern for a knitted baby sweater i found on line. The book is beautiful to look at and had my pattern. Instructions seem clear and how-to photos are very well presented. The only thing I would have liked was having the cm measurements also converted into inches

The book seems like a great addition to have for patterns. My copy was delivered missing the pages I wanted for the pattern I was wanting to make. The company did rectify the situation but it was still a little annoying. Like I said though, the book looks like a great book.

First checked this book out of the local library, and found the projects perfect for my needs. In the end, having extended my borrowing time too many times, I had to turn it in.Was very pleased to find it used on Amazon for a very reasonable price.

A really lovely selection of patterns in this book .Arrived quickly , nicely packaged and in excellent condition .Possibly not suitable for a beginner however there is nothing too challenging in here .The patterns are as you would expect from the experienced and prolific knitwear designer Debbie Bliss.Included are the usual blanket and cushion as well as a variety of baby wear items , dressing gown , hats and jumpers , adorable bloomers, coats ,pinafore , jackets and cardigan .Also included clear instructions with pictures and advise , recommended if you enjoy stylish unfussy baby patterns

As previous reviewers have pointed out, there are quite alot of mistakes in the patterns in this book so be sure to check the errata on the Debbie Bliss website before you start knitting. Also, I would recommend substituting the yarn for something cheaper as the projects work out to be very expensive for an item that a baby is going to grow out of very quickly. I knitted the pram blanket, which is beautiful; the baby beanbag which cost alot once fabric, lining and beans are included; and the bath robe, which is lovely but I don't use it for after the bath because I worry that constant dampness would cause the wool to becaome mishapen in time. As for the rest of the patterns, alot of them are old fashioned and after having 3 children, I can tell that the majority of them are not too practical either. And one or two patterns, including the 'home sweet home' picture, are a joke! Any half competant knitter could design that on their own and the finished product looks a bit simplistic. It feels like padding to flesh out a book. On the plus side, there is a very helpful section at the beginning on types of stitches and knitting techniques, including intarsia, which would be a great help for beginners.Overall, I'm glad I bought this on amazon for such a great price as I would be sorely disappointed if I had paid full price for it - I bought two Debbie Bliss books at the same time and based on that experience, I would never buy another.

The book was in perfect condition and has some very interesting projects. It's very well illustrated and the patterns are easy to understand. Debbie Bliss patterns are excellent at the best of times, and this book is no exception. I knitted the duffle coat for my grandson and it turned out beautifully. Whether you are an experienced knitter or a novice you will find something in here that makes you want to pick up your needles and knit.

Excellent patterns but all in 3 ply and 4 ply.

Lovely book full of great designs for the new baby. A lot of my patterns are well used and a bit dated, but this book is a little treasure. Will buy from this seller again.
