Exceptional Tool Set
I needed a flaring tool (starting in 1995), and have on very rare occasion used the old tool. This time I discovered the old flaring tool was rusted beyond function ability. The Shankly Flaring Tool Set is exactly what is needed, and the flaring only took 5 minutes. I expect this tool set will not experience any rust ever.

Decent tool... Really cheap case
A good flaring tool with everything I needed. It works well and makes a clean flare (I have only used it for copper so far). The pipe cutter worked well too but the spare cutter is stored under the de-burr tang so when you extend the tang the spare cutter falls out. No other issues with the tool but the blow-mold case it comes in is really cheap and flimsy and with the many mandrels in the set nothing stays in place.

First flare bad, second time success - tested to 150 psig
In today's world there are very few things that use flared fittings. This kit is very useful when repairing old equipment. My first flared fitting failed because of me. The second flare was very good and tested 50% percent above the rated pressure. I will used this for flared fittings primarily. Excellent and easy to use tools; flaring tool and tubing cutter.

Works OK But Quality Not There
I purchased this flaring tool kit a couple of years ago in anticipation of some small domestic uses, like installing a couple of ductless mini split A/C systems. I had another flaring tool kit but it was very old and cheep and I had no confidence in it. I used this Shankly Flaring Tool Set today and was very disappointed. It is marginally adequate and I will make it work. However, it has a few issues that I want to make others aware of. 1st - the flaring tool does not lock onto the tubing clamp securely. The tool is designed to simply rotate about 45 degrees over the clamp once in position and two slots/notches that were cast into the flaring tool slip over the clamp's sides. it is not at all secure until you apply pressure by screwing the flaring tool down onto the tubing. This is cumbersome to deal with but not the worst of it. If you wish to flare tubing in one the two end positions, the tubing clamp's wing nuts (used to clamp the tubing in place) will interfere with the positioning of the flaring tool and it will not fully mate with the clamp. In my case it was the 1/4 inch tubing position which is by far the most common. 2nd - the flaring tool tip for creating a 45 degree flare on copper tubing is of marginal quality. It is the beveled and chromed tip that, again, is the most commonly used tip in the set. It is so roughly machined that you can see and feel the machining marks with your fingers and I am concerned that my flared tubing surfaces will not be very smooth and prone to leak. 3rd - The tubing cutter. It works great. However, if you wish to use the deburing knife on the cutter, the spare cutting blade will fall out when you extend the deburing knife blade. It was also my experience that the deburing knife blade did not do a very good job of deburing my copper tubing. The blade does not have a good edge and may even damage the interior surface of the tubing prior to the flaring process. I had to resort to a rotary blade that I use in machining which worked much better. Yes, I should not expect perfection at this price point. However, it would have been nice if someone had pointed these issues out in a review before I purchased it. Even on YouTube, no one gave the Shankly Flaring Tool Set a very critical look. I hope this information will help you make a wiser, more informed decision.

The right tool for the right price!
This is a quality tool set! Originally I went to look at the one at harbor freight but it felt cheap and did not inspire confidence. This set cost less money, included more, and is built to last. The molded case is the icing on top especially since I hate not being able to find my tools and having to keep things organized. If you are in need of quality tools you should have no hesitations about buying from shankly auto.

NOT THE RIGHT TOOL FOR BRAKE LINES!!!
Poses a safety risk because this does NOT make the 45-degree inverted (double) flare that is the SAE and DOT standard for high-pressure hydraulic lines, particularly brake lines in cars, trucks and even motorcycles and scooters. All domestic and most Japanese car makers use and require the double flare. A label on the case says "not a Double Flaring Tool" but that's not clear in the Amazon description. There are no instructions. I found a 1-minute YouTube that merely shows a man who looks like an auto mechanic demonstrating how flares are made. with any inexpensive similar-looking flare tool set. A card in the case directs user to [email protected]... which produces no useful information or a place to register the tool. Never used the tool once I realized it should only be used for low-pressure lines, not brake lines, hydraulic systems on tractors, trucks, etc. Returned without using it.
