The Last Shadow Knight (Shadow Knights Book 1)

Excellent
It's not high fantasy with a lot of magical mayhem bit the story and progression are good and are complimented by the equally good worldbuilding and character development. I've read a lot of high fantasy and despite not being one, I never felt bored for a second.

An immersive high fantasy read.
I like the cover image of this book and as I read the book and finished it, it started to make sense to me, so I really liked the thoughtfulness behind it. This book was really interesting to read and very engaging. It is a delightful mixture of vivid and elaborate settings, strong characterisation, interesting concept and good writing along with great pacing and tension. So, for me, this book had it all. I enjoyed reading it and I am looking forward to reading the next part of this trilogy. If you like reading fantasy books then I'd definitely recommend this book!

Coming of age story
The prologue was very promising and my hopes were high. Then the central character was introduced and it became a story about a teenage boy. As he introduced another teenage boy then a pre teen girl into the mix I was ready to bin it. He then jumps forward a few years to give it a teenage angst turn. This was the second time I almost binned it but for some odd reason I carried on reading. There's a kernel of a decent enough story and two of the kids become interesting but the main kid is a bit dull. He gets education and training to become a supposedly highly skilled warrior with a head for business too. Unfortunately he's not street smart (even though he grew up on them) and gets screwed over a few times. This should have been a good set up for him to go on a trail of revenge and become much more interesting. How ever, his idea of revenge is beating his enemy in a public contest instead of sticking a big blade through him.As things turn out he does get to doing some good blade work that sees the killing of some that really did deserve it, but not all. He gets well and truly stitched up at the end with a hint that the penny has finally dropped. This gives enough to suggest that the next book is worth a try but I do hope the noble intentions are dialled down a bit and he's ready to be a real bad ass.

Recommended Excellence
I sit here having just finished the first book of what I hope will be a great series. So often when you read a new book (wether in a series or from a new author) they can lack something… The Last Shadow Knight has everything and it builds nicely to a climax that leave the reader wanting more. As far as I can see you are related the stories of four main characters, and the two heroes coming together from very little seems excellent. My only question now is what happens next?Read this and enjoy. To the author - when are we expecting the next book?

Nice story
I should have known when there was more recommendations before the synopsis.Nice story but, I don’t like it when the storyline splits into three before the main character is developed. Not for me.

Couldn't keep my interest
It's a shame, but this book couldn't keep my interest. I felt the characters lacked dimension and the story line was very predictable and boring. Tried to persevere in the hope that it would take off, but it didn't.

For 10 year olds only
I mistakenly though this was a grimdark novel. If you are older than 10 look elsewhere as this won't satisfy
