Before the Batman: An Original Movie Novel (the Batman Movie): Includes 8-Page Full-Color Insert and Poster!

When I spotted a prequel novel to the new Batman movie, I immediately ordered this. It wasn’t until it arrived and I noticed there was only 135 pages and the text is very big. It was at this stage I discovered it a children’s book aimed at 8-12 year olds. Why they’ve released a prequel book for a 15 certificate mature dark and gritty Batman movie, aimed at 10-12 year olds is beyond me.So onto the actual book. It reads like a kids story. Everything plays out in a very matter-of-fact way, and all the nuance of Batman’s past and the emotional impact it has is just not there. In fact, it’s written in such a way that it all but implies that Bruce Wayne became Batman out of boredom.I can’t recommend this book to anyone who has read any wealth of Batman comics, because the characterisation is virtually non-existent.

Like other reviews have stated, this short book seems to be aimed at a younger audience. However, it does give you a little more background, insight and motivations of Bruce Wayne and Edward Nashton, before you watch the movie.The book isn't as in-depth as a graphic novel, but if you're a Batman fan and plan on watching the new movie, I would say give this a read first.

Excellent exordium to the movie The Batman. An enjoyable introduction to both our protagonist and antagonist, in their character's development from juveniles to adults. The journey gives the reader an understanding to the characters final mindset and circumstance. Well worth the investment.

A solid story looking at how this version of the character started out. I really like the world building in this universe, feels fleshed out and alive. An easy to read book, not many pages but uses that time to get straight into the details.Learning more about the Gotham project and the notes being similar to the opening of the movie was great.

very good book took a bit of time to arrive but very good read
