Works like a threaded reemer.
Small at the tip, screw hole can be made larger with this tool. I'll use my 30 year old General thread starter in my guitar shop because it is narrower, better for guitar work and smaller holes. This new tool will find a home in my garage. And it will be used in the spring...a lot.BTW, this is not a screw starter. Screw starters hold a screw so it can be put into a screw hole especially in awkward locations.

No one knows what a screw starter is.
No one at the big box stores or at the local hardware stores knew what a screw starter was. We found this great one on Amazon. It appears to be sturdy and well made.

Handle and metal screw starter misaligned
Well designed and would have been great if the metal screw starter had been inserted into the plastic handle straight. Suggest you look at a different brand rather than risk getting a defective product.Kudos to Amazon; they promptly refunded my purchase.

Not the best for my needs.
I needed a hand tool I could use to poke holes through relatively thin metal. This seemed like a stable, sturdy, efficient tool to use. It works okay but it just is not sharp enough to go through the metal. It was a disappointment. Going back to a scratch awl.

Good screw started, but I would prefer courser threads.
It a basic tool. Good enough, but not the same quality as the more expensive channellock equivalent. Both use a fine "machine screw" thread pitch. I would prefer a courser pitch, like a sheet metal screw or wood screw.
