What a great way to learn Mandarin
What a great way to learn Mandarin. The book is colorful, with pictures of real life objects cut-out on various solid colored backgrounds. Each picture has an English and Mandarin translation. Here is my overview of what is in the book.1) The book opens with the alphabet. The alphabet is paired with animals, starting with alligator and ending with zebra.2) Numbers are paired with food. Numbers go from 1 to 10 and the food items are mostly fruit and vegetables.3) Colors start with a picture of a rainbow. Then, there are 7 pictures of colored objects showing each color of the rainbow.4) Opposites goes through quite a few important concepts. Included are, up/down, in/out, hot/cold, wet/dry, front/back, on/off, open/closed, empty/full, safe/danger, big/small, asleep/awake, long/short.5) Shapes pair objects with the following shapes. Circle, square, rectangle, triangle, cone, star, oval, and heart.6) Sounds demonstrate a variety of noises, from animals (monkey, cow, rooster), people (sneeze, hush), and objects (phone, drum).7) Actions shows pictures of kids as they crawl, roll, walk, run, hop, ride, kiss, and jump.8) Emotions shows expressions on kids faces for happy, sad, angry, scared, frustrated, shock, surprise, and bravery.9) Sports identifies different types of balls, showing baseball, basketball, tennis, soccer, volleyball, football, and golf.10) Engines shows pictures of different types of vehicles, like fire truck, car, race car, helicopter, airplane, and truck.11) Sizes shows small, medium, and large varieties of flowers, berries, leaves, and toys.12) Body, identifies head, shoulders, knees, toes, eyes, ears, mouth, and nose. I love singing this page.13) Tableware shows, sippy cup, bowl, pot, cup, plate, fork, knife, and spoon.14) Clothing runs through hat, shirt, pants, shorts, gloves, sunglasses, socks, and shoes.15) Bath time shows a toddler in a bath, soap, and a rubber duck.16) Bed time shows a kid brushing their teeth, a potty, book, and a child sleeping in bed.17) Activity. The book ends with an activity page, asking kids to identify the different images on the page which look like they were randomly selected from different sections of the book. This book was absolutely worth it. It is an excellent resource to teach my son a whole bunch of words and concepts in both English and Mandarin.

overall is fine. But find two mistakes
overall is fine. But find two mistakes. The duck’s sound should be “嘎嘎” instead of “呱呱”, which is for frog. Rooster’s sound should be “喔喔”. “窝窝” has the same pronunciation as “喔喔”,but we don’t use word “窝” for sounds.

Great pictures, bi-lingual, softcover with matte pages
I bought this for my twin two year olds who understand both English and Chinese, to enhance their learning. I love the book and the pictures chosen for the book. The only change I would make is to its durability. Given that it's a book for toddlers, I would strongly prefer it to be hard cover with thick, preferably glossy pages that can stand up to toddler wear and tear. That being said, I'm grateful for resources like these for bilingual toddlers and would purchase it again even without those changes.

Paperback is bad quality. Some translations are a bit off to me.
I got the paperback format. The paper quality is terrible. It is literally like someone printed it on regular paper from a printer. No wax or smooth finish at all. The paper quality is subpar compared to any other baby book I have gotten. I like the concept but some of the words-to-picture is weird.page 39: mouth is translated to lips (嘴). It is still correct. I think it is more correct if it is translated to (口). Maybe cause I am Cantonese speaker and it is more appropriate with Mandarin speakers.page 18: For "on" they show a light bulb and words (开) which technically means open. For light there is another word Cantonese speakers use and I have never heard Mandarin speakers use 开 for turning on lights either.one funny one is page 27. Lamb. They have it as lamb meat which is mutton. 羊肉Those are just a few examples I have notice when i opened it. Please note I am not fluent in Chinese. I can speak fluently in few Chinese dialects but my reading skill is probably at 2nd year in China standards at best.

Good book for children/toddlers to learn basic/beginner's Chinese!
Purchased this book for my 2 year old twin nephews, and they LOVE it. They ask for it and read it every night while they are eating dinner. I can already tell that they are picking things up in Chinese quickly! The book is a good size for a toddler to handle, and the pictures and text are also appropriate. This book is a great tool for those just starting to learn a few, basic Chinese words. Great purchase!

Love that the book has the characters
Love that the book has the characters, pinyin, and English of the word. The book is set up in a REALLY similar way to the ‘first words’ series.I got the paperback version. As another reviewer posted the quality of the pages is not great. It does look like it’s been printed from an regular desk printer but it’s not so bad that it’s unreadable. Seems like the author is probably self-publishing or something. The content seems pretty extensive but a bit repetitive with some concepts. Also the connection between some of the pictures and their words were a little confusing. Though they were all for more abstract concepts which would be more difficult to illustrate. For example the word alphabet has a picture of a zebra. It makes sense if you have the associations between z for zebra and the alphabet but someone just learning language might think that zebras were called alphabet.Overall it I think it will work for myself and my nieces but some improvements could be made.
