Successdful Install
When I called Broan Nutone, their Rep suggested this as a replacement for the BK125LWH-1, which I did like but found out that the volume couldn't be increased and this made me miss visitors. The LA600WH's dimensions were similar to the Bk's. In fact, I was able to reuse the BK's cover which didn't muffle the volume as much as the LA's. After researching the LA's reviews on Amazon, I bought it. I would like to thank all of the helpful reviews, especially the one that suggested the ferrite clamp to prevent "ghost ringing". I bought one and installed it as a precaution. The wired installation was straightforward. The first problem I had was that the diode shorted out my front doorbell and killed the light within it. The second problem I had was that I couldn't change the chimes. I decided to return it and give it another try. After purchasing a new lighted doorbell for the front door and receiving the replacement unit, I installed the second one and it was dead. I was devastated because I really wanted it to work, especially after I had downloaded some chimes into it. After vocally praying to God out of despair, I discovered the diode was installed with the silver ring toward the transmitter. Once I reversed it, I got the unit to work but the chimes were working in reverse. I discovered the electrician had reversed the wiring in the box. Once I reversed the wiring, I was able to select different chimes for the front and rear doors. Hallelujah! So far so good. Don't know how long it's going to last but for now I'm extremely happy that I was able to get it to work.Update...My visitors say they can hear my chime outdoors! I have a 3,000 sq ft ranch house and I don't keep it "mouse quiet", so this information means a lot to me. Unfortunately, I experienced my first incidence of "ghost ringing" even with the ferrite clamp installed. The painter came over and when he unlocked his truck, my doorbell rang. We verified this several times to make sure this really happened. This makes me sad because I really like this product and do not want to return it. I installed the clamp per the photograph. I don't know what else to do.Last Update...May God richly bless the Reviewer who posted the solution of removing the jumpers. It worked. No more "ghost ringing". However, I'm keeping the ferrite clamp on the wiring.

POS! Buy the Honeywell Series 9 instead!
I bought this doorbell to install in lieu of my existing doorbell chime, which just played the Westminster chime for about 4 seconds. I uploaded about 8 songs, which was easy but the second I turned it on, it stayed on without even pressing the doorbell button. Before I go further, let me state how I TRIED to remedy this disaster of a doorbell:1) I changed my transformer, which was fine but produced about 19v , which isnt bad but I got to exactly 16v as required.2) I tries two different doorbell buttons3) Isolated my existed wires and checked them with a multimeter for any shorts or grounds4) Changed the diode and installed it accordingly5) Tried programming a shut off time by the manual6) Removed the wireless jumpers as some had mentioned beforeNothing. The doorbell chime would engage by itself and stay on without any end in sight. I even swapped it back out to my old Chime and that worked fine. This thing is garbage, plain and simple. The only other option was to buy the wireless button from Broan-Nutone that ONLY pairs with this chime, but requires you to drill a 3-1/2" deep hole into the wall and buy a trim. Forget that mess.I went and bought the Honeywell Series 9 locally for cheaper than this, strictly wireless and took about 5 mins to install. Plus, it comes with its own doorbell button, is louder than the Nutone and even has changeable lights to accompany the chime.Amazon can have this one back, pure trash

Good for most typical installs...
Seems very good all around, but I have some thoughts about the install. The unit works either with wireless buttons (not included, purchase separately) on batteries (D size), or wired. If you are using it wired, it requires installing a diode (included) across your doorbell pushbutton (existing or separately purchased). You must have a 16VAC (not DC or other voltages) doorbell system for this to work. The diode allows half-wave power to reach the LA600WH, powering its logic circuits; pushing the doorbell button bypasses the diode, delivering full-wave power, which the logic circuit detects and causes the unit to play whatever sound is programmed. I happen to have a three-level home, with door chime units on each level, wired in parallel, so the front door button rings all three chime units at once, so you can hear the doorbell clearly on every level. I was going to install this unit on the main level for better appearance and more sound choices, but the diode requirement causes the other door chimes on the circuit to be powered at all times, which would quickly lead to their over-heating and failure. My only alternative is to go to the wireless configuration, which I can't/won't, because the other chime units aren't wireless and replacing them with two more of these units seems a waste of money.I'm a techie, so I can engineer a workaround, but if you're not, understand that this unit is really built for the three simplest configurations of door chimes in your home: (1) wireless pushbutton(s) with this unit in wireless mode running on batteries (requiring periodic replacement); (2) one pushbutton hard wired to this one chime unit alone; (3) two pushbuttons, one for the front door and one for another (rear? side? diode goes only on front door button) door, hard wired to this one chime unit alone. Also, because of the diode requirement, the install is a little bit (just a little) more complicated than just hooking the thing up where your old unit may have been--read and follow the directions carefully. The diode provided (1N4002) is probably adequate, but be aware that if the chime stops working (or sounds continuously), the diode is a likely point of failure and you'll need to source a replacement (DigiKey, Jameco, etc.). If you have a lighted pushbutton, it will be less bright because of the diode.Sorry if this is a little complicated. I think it's a fine product that will work for most people, I just happen to have an unusual installation case that will take a little more work. I wish NuTone had provided a contact closure while sound was playing, as this would make even my odd install easy to handle with this device.
