if its IR , transmitter must be in view of the receiver to receive signals or does it connect by bluetooth?

Hi Joe. Its neither. It transmits wirelessly to a provided receiver which communicates to your head unit through a "key" wire. You just need to make sure your head unit has key wires and has integrated calibration software so your head unit knows what button you are pressing.

Will this work with a Joying head unit? I've been trying with no luck.

The round puck remotes do in fact work with my Joying head unit. You must wire into the head unit power and ground wiring and not to an alternate source.. The only button that does not work as intended is the mic button for some reason. I can program the button to do something else though. The switch is to the left and brown key 1 goes to grey, pink key 2 goes to white. You I was about to send it back when I got it working.

Can you remove the band?

The one I bought didn't have a band, I wish it did
