D'Addario Accessories Thumb Picks, Large, 5 Pack

As per the other reviews, these "large" sized thumb picks aren't particularly large. I skimmed through the reviews of several similar products, and basically ended up between these and the Dunlop mediums. What steered me to this product was the package size: Dunlop offered a dozen, while these were sold in 5 packs. I had no use for 12, in fact all I really needed was 2: one to use and one as backup, but the pricing was unbeatable. I figured my thumbs were fairly average sized, I am about 5' 10", 150 lbs, and I have relatively thing fingers, "piano-fingers" you might call them. I was more concerned about them being too lose, than the complaints of them being too small. Lo and behold, the other reviewers were right, and the picks were a little small, meaning they fit perfect for me. They are high quality picks, very nice sounding, very pretty to look at, and perhaps the most important to me, fit very comfortably. So if you have average sized hands, then definitely I recommend these! If you are a lumberjack or just have meaty fingers, maybe look for a large size in another brand, or extra large on here (not sure that exists). But bottom line, I LOVE these picks.

There is no way 3 sizes will fit everyone as they come from the factory. The good news is that they are adjustable. The large barely fit on the end of my thumb and would hurt if I forced it on. I steamed some water in the microwave and put the thumb pick in for a two minutes. Now it's pliable. I stretched it over the body of a Sharpie marker and a couple hours later it fit much better. Maybe too big. I messed with them over the next couple days and now I have 5 custom-fit thumb picks that fit perfectly.

I don't know any adult that could get this on their thumb in any comfortable way. WAY TOO SMALL!

This is exactly what I needed and far superior to the basic thumb pick. It’s well made and works as promised. I’m primarily a finger style player so I don’t flat pick often but I do like to use a flat pick approach for strumming and fast mandolin style Tremolo. Other thumb picks catch on the strings and get loose or pinch and are basically useless for flat picking. If you’re a straight flat picker with only occasional need for finger style this pick might not be worth the adjustment but if you’re 50/50 or more this is the ticket. For me this product is a game changer and I’ll be ordering more.

I use a thumb pick instead of a flat pick on my guitar, owing to arthritis bending my index finger and changing my flatpick grip. This is the only thumb pick that allows me to down pick and up pick without adding some sort of adhesive or foam to keep it from slipping on the up stroke. If I get other brands that fit tightly enough, they bite into my thumb, making it painful to play for any period of time. I've had a performing bluegrass/variety band for 25 years, and this is the first one that worked well right out of the package. This may or may not be the case with other players, but the picks work just right for me. I've bought them twice now, and they are consistent. They're inexpensive enough for you to try and see if they work well for you.

These are quality picks and sound great but as other reviewers have noted, these run very small. I bought the Large size and found it to be tighter than the Medium size of some other brands. I have pretty small hands for a guy and these are still quite tight. Will be trying the boiling water trick to see if I can open them up a bit.
