Stuart Goes to School

This book is one of my favorites that I used to read to my elementary class at the beginning of the school year. I just bought this copy for my grandson, who will be a 3rd grader next year, just like Stuart.

Highly recommended book as my 2nd grader enjoys it every night for reading. It has great illustrations and is very funny.

Cute story line. Stuart is new in school, and shows up wearing his special magic cape, which helps him to make new friends. I bought this based off some ideas I read on teaching blogs. My son, who is a third grader, enjoyed the book. It is readable in 5-10 minutes. I teach third grade, and plan on using it next year at the beginning of the year to tie some art and self-portraits into the start of school, as well as a lead-in to some of the feelings we might have when we are new.

I'm finally truly enjoying reading to my son, who is 6, since we found the Stewart books. I was so disappointed when I went to buy the "next" one (the third one?) that that's all there is! Bummer!

The story will be enjoyed but the quality of the paper and the size and quality of the print are a big issue for a young reader. For $5.99 for 60 page book should be better quality than yellowish news print, size 9ish font, and economy mode print quality with gray/black stick figure illustrations.
