Old Fashioned Mary Jane Wrapped Taffy Candy (2 Pound)

Smaller than I remember but same great taste

The shape has changed over the years. This has been one of my favorite caddies since I was a child.The flavor has changed a tad, but I'm not complaining.They now taste between a Bit-O-Honey and the black & orange Halloween Cady.I Love, love this product.

We ordered these for a trick or treat bar but could not bring ourselves to put them out. First off, they are not the Mary Janes you might remember. They are small, thin, with no peanut butter flavor. Also, this batch was so hard to chew that we were afraid guests would lose a filling. Lastly, the wrappers were dripping with grease, so when you unwrapped them, it left grease on your fingers. A hard "no" on these (no pun intended)!

A little smaller than they used to be, this candy is a great little "desert" to enjoy instead of a larger food item (cake, pie, etc.) to top off a meal. It takes the edge off without breaking the bank, calorically.

This company apparently bought the candy name Mary Jane but they are not the same recipe. I have eaten the originals from Necco for decades and these lack actual peanut butter and need more molasses flavor. Each piece is smaller than the originals also. Given that they are different from a different mfg. they still taste good but not what I was hoping for. A plus is that they release from the wrapper readily so you eat less wax paper bits.I hope to find a company that makes the generic "Peanut Butter Kisses" black and orange wrapper Halloween candy that is closer to the Necco recipe. Those were also made by Necco before they went out of business and other companies. I remember going after Halloween and buying bags and bags of leftover orange and black kisses for 50 cents a bag. They lasted me until spring but those days are over now!!

No, they don’t have a layer of peanut butter I would say they’re sort of an adult version of Mary Jane in a little roll. Like if salt water taffy got denser and richer. Uniform in flavor, they’re roasted peanutty with a dash of molasses. A very tasty chew.
