Ricky Skaggs, now in his 38th year in the music business with his own successful record label and a total of 13 GRAMMY awards continues to reach beyond the msuical boundaries. He is wrapping up his tour with Pop artist Bruce Hornsby, and an outstanding video performance of "Old Enough" with Jack White, The Reconteurs and Ashley Monroe has just been released. With such success across many genres of music, it seems only fitting for Ricky to include the addition of his ground-breaking country masterworksto the Skaggs Family Records repertoire. The first of these is 1982's "Highways & Heartaches". Appearances from Bela Fleck, Jerry Douglas, Buck White and Sharon White and the songwriting expertise of Rodney Crowell, Guy Clark, Larry Cordle and Bill Monroe join country and bluegrass musical styles in holy matrimony, concocting an organically orginal sound that is still as fresh today as it was at the time of first release 27 years ago. "Highways & Heartaches" is RIAA Certified Platnium, spawned three #1 singles("Heartbroke", "I Wouldn't Change You If I Could" and "Highway 40 Blues") and solidified Ricky Skaggs as one of music's most influential singers, instrumentalists and producers.

One of Skaggs Best Top 3 Country CDs
Hard to pick a favorite, but this CD has some really good songs on it. I'll take this more traditional country music over the garbage pop music stuff out there now any day. Just me....

Going Back in Time!
I had this on an LP record some thirty two or so years ago and what wonderful memories it brings back! Just love every song and will always treasure this CD!

If you like real country music you need this. Fiddles, and pedal steel kick ass on Rickys stuff.

great album.
Just about every song it good. Some are more catchy (acres and acres of broken hearted lovers) but all are good. Try listening to soldiers of the cross (particularly 7 Hillsides) A different album from Highways and Heartaches.

A cracked case but otherwise satisfied
I received it with a cracked case, but otherwise I am satisfied.

ricky skaggs is ok i bought this as a gift for my mom i got it used by can in mint condition he does have some good songs though

Ricky Skaggs's "Highways & Heartaches"
Ricky's CDs are always tight. The musianship was first rate and without flaw, but it isn't Bluegrass as I see it. I should have sampled it before buying, because I was expecting a hard driving bluegrass version of "Can't You Hear Me Calling'?" Highways & Heartaches However, when he plays with Kentucky Thunder, it is Bluegrass turned up to eleven.

This is with out a doubt the best record Ricky ever made. Great musicians all over this album. I recommend it highly. Thanks

It's skaggs. What more do you need to know?
This is a brilliant album of Skaggs'. It has all the classic hits eg highway 40 blues, i wouldn't change you if i could and one way rider. I bought this for my da who had this album, possibly on vinyl, when he lived and played country music in london. Whatever happened, and he left it there, and so if i was ever wanting to buy MYSELF a cd, he would always talk about how great this album was, and rightly so. I would say that this album, IS Ricky Skaggs! These are the songs that you know him by. Also the sound quality is very high despite the fact this album was first recorded in the 80's.Just in case you want to know the songs1. Heartbroke2. You've got a lover3. Don't think i'll cry4. Classic Skaggs
This is one of Ricky Skaggs country albums before he returned to bluegrass. It is country all the way with a bluegrass edge. Contains the superb title track, Heartbroken which is a classic and others. If you love traditional country music brought up to date, this is a great collection. Plenty of fiddle, steel guitars and great songs. Highly recommended.
