Hedgie's Surprise

It's one of my son's favorite books we lost our copy and it was great to find this at such a great price!!

The illustrations and story are 5-star plus.However the seller marked this book as “like new” and it is not even close. I would say “fair”. Very disappointed in the condition.It was inexpensive and not worth the trouble to take to the return center. The seller must be counting on that.

A birthday gift

Bought this book for a baby shower that asked guests to, “Fill baby’s library”.Cute story with beautiful pictures.

My mom has collected a big library for us over the years, and some of my favorite authors for children's books are Jan Brett, Patricia Polacco, Bill Peet, Chris van Dusen, and Kevin Henkes. Hedgie's Surprise is my favorite book that Jan Brett wrote, and I think it should get a blue ribbon. It has sophisticated language: "Don't worry, Henny," Hedgie told her. "Now, it's time for my surprise." The book has memorable characters and is a great story. That's why it's re-readable. Jan Brett's art is unique and unlike anyone else's. Her books have little pictures on each side of each spread with what looks like tapestries around them. The story is about a hen who doesn't want the tomten to take her eggs and a little hedgehog who tries to help her. He succeeds! At first the author makes you a little worried that the hen might lose all her eggs, but it turns out alright in the end. This is a book I think you should have in your library at home.

I love Jan Brett and I love this story- it's so cute and the illustrations are colorful and fun. I got this book as a gift for my sister's baby shower- it was the only option that would arrive in time, and I thought "very good condition" meant it would look decent enough to give as a gift. The condition was listed as used- very good, but the book I received is not in what I would call "very good condition". One of the corners are worn/frayed, the cover has a crease where the edge was once dog-eared, the cover was grimy (i was able to wipe it off with a wet wipe but still, that's gross), there's a small stain on the back, and some of the pages are coming loose from the binding. As an avid reader, I know that books get well loved when they are used and that these things happen, but the condition shouldn't be listed as very good when it's not. I would say it's somewhere between good condition and acceptable condition. Be careful of the condition listed, and my advice is, if you're getting it as a gift, spend a little more money for a new copy.

Any book with Jan Brett’s name one it is a winner. The stories are alway sweet but the artwork is amazing!! I wish I owned every one of her books! I am a huge fan!

Beautifully illustrated, this book is a wonderful addition to anyone's library!

Jan Brett books are a huge hit in this house and this one does not disappoint!

Beautiful illustrations and charming story. A Jan Brett classic. My two year old loves her hedgie stories! This was no exception.
