Color Harmony Wheel

I am thrilled to find this color wheel tool which gives correct perceptual complements rather than paint mixing complements found on color wheels typically used by artists who assume perceptual and paint mixing complements one in the same. Because of the differences in the number of colors and differences in complementary color pairs from paint mixing wheels, I had been confused about how to use Munsell's perceptual color wheel to derive harmonious combinations But no longer!Ridder's Color Harmony Wheel is designed to show a wedge of analogous colors, the complement to the central color, and 2 color discords. The directions are easy provided you know the meaning and usefulness of analogous and complementary colors. Just look them up if you don't. Once you understand them, you will love the visual simplicity of Ridder's wheel.Another extremely helpful feature of Ridder's wheel is having different color values and common names of the paint colors right on the wheel.I'm not sure how to identify split complements, triadic or tetradic combos, but, since I've seen some diagrams of them on the Munsell's perceptual color wheel on the Internet, perhaps Ridder will come up with something clever.Side Note: I looked through my watercolor library and noticed none of the authors showed the perceptual color wheel--only paint mixing wheels, however, their paintings frequently include perceptual complements. I think their color selections are intuitive, and intuition is pretty tough to teach.My first painting using Ridder's wheel showed a marked improvement in color selection; my colors are more lively and look "right."I highly recommend The Color Harmony Wheel.

Absolutely the best color wheel I've ever found.Had several kinds over the years but this is the most straight-forward, comprehensive, sturdy.For anyone. Not just artists but decorators, average home owner choosing fabric, paint, combinations. Really decent price compared to any art store offering.It may not travel very well. Subject to bending, being crimped, and center of wheel coming off.

Finally, a color wheel that tells me which tube of paint to use to get the desired effect! I love that the colors are labeled by recognized artist's paint colors that are common to oils, acrylics and watercolors. The way it blocks out non-relevant colors so you can actually see the combination is genius. I also love the little accent color spots. They tell you how you can add just a little pop to your color scheme. I have basic color wheels and even apps on my phone that are supposed to identify colors, but they use some bogus names that are maybe somebody's wall paint swatches or something. This wheel is easy to understand, and is made of very sturdy cardboard. It is also not so huge that it won't fit in my art supply drawers or slip into a folder for transport. I'm really happy with this!

I color as a means of distraction from symptoms a health issue. And then there’s the whole relaxation element. Problem is that I’m color choice challenged. I end up agonizing over color choices, do a fairly decent job, but then add a color that totally ruins (for me anyway) my picture even though I’d test the color combination on a separate paper first. While I wouldn’t know for sure if a color choice was correct, I certainly knew when it was wrong when added to the drawing. It doesn’t help that I have about 200 colored markers and/or pencils to choose from :)This color wheel wheedles my choices down to those that will work and allows me to know what contrast colors (something I instinctively want to add) are okay. Just as importantly it informed me where I was going wrong in that regard. I was over using my contrast colors.What made this particular wheel appealing is that it includes all the shades of the 200 colors I have from which to choose, unlike many others. The most helpful part of the wheel is that the way it works it blocks from my view the colors that don’t match. If it were not for those two functions, I’d say it was a little over priced. Totally worth it to me though.Yes, I still agonize, but that’s mostly from learning color types. This wheel has already taught me much and knowing I’m staying within the correct color ranges reduces the stress of choosing. Meaning the ‘relaxation’ part of coloring is finally a benefit I’m experiencing. I’m having a lot more fun now too!

I like this product because it is easy to use and very simple. Unlike other color wheels, it is very easy to figure out. It’s worth the extra money in my opinion. I would definitely recommend this to others and I would absolutely buy it again.

This color wheel is easy to use and helps me get that magical combination of color matching or opposites that impress me and make my work much better. I always wondered how people came up with the combinations they do, this wheel Helps me to do that. It is sturdy and durable. I’ll never be without one again. Good for any age artist or wannabe artist

Fell apart within minutes. I should be able to find a fix. The info it shows is interesting. I will keep it and fix it. Really, probably not worth as much as it costs.

Selecting complementary colors is straight forward even without this aid, but choosing which analogous ones to add is trickier until you have this color blending wheel. It easily guides you through entire color schemes for your paintings.
