Now she’s back—older, wiser and full of spunk—to share with us the incredible power of resisting negativity and being gatekeepers of our own truth. ~ Just One More Book   Lee Fodi does it again with his excellent storytelling and amazing illustrations. ~ Armchair Interviews Reviews of Kendra Kandlestar and the Box of Whispers: This book would appeal to a variety of readers who like fantasy, adventure, or a strong story line. ~ Deborah Mervold, CM Magazine   As a perfect introduction or addition to any child’s fantasy collection ~ Midwest Book Review This cleverly crafted fantasy is full of magic, silliness, suspense and adventure and is an absolute hit with the little ones. ~ JustOneMoreBook.com   Editor’s Choice ~ Vancouver Sun Read more About the Author Growing up on a farm, Lee Edward Fodi was subjected to various horrible chores such as cleaning up after chickens, pigs, geese, and younger siblings. There was a time when his father harbored hopes that his son would take over the family business--but these aspirations came to an abrupt end when the young author accidentally ran the tractor over his dad's outhouse (thankfully, his dad was not inside at the time). As a result, Fodi went on to pursue his love of art, mythology, and storytelling, all of which (luckily) do not require any skill in operating heavy machinery. He is the author and illustrator of "The Chronicles of Kendra Kandlestar" and has also illustrated several picture books, including "I'll Follow the Moon" and "The Chocolatier's Apprentice," a Canadian national bestseller. When he is not writing and illustrating, Fodi spends his time teaching kids how to daydream through his fun-filled creative writing workshops. He enjoys travelling, and especially exploring castles, mazes, tombs, and temples--not to mention tiny places hidden between the cracks of here and there. Read more

My 4 year old and I loved it - Spoiler alert
I read this to my 4 year old daughter a chapter a night. She enjoyed it and so did I. It was a good fantasy adventure, exciting but not so much that my little one had nightmares. There were some frightening bits but I think it was just as much the way I read it as the words I read. Kendra is a nice heroine and it is nice that the main character is a female. The world Mr. Fodi creates is rich and filled with nice characters. When I asked my daughter for her review she said her favorite bit was when Kendra figured out that Troogle was her brother and she least liked the scary bits in the dark. She didn't like the way each chapter end was a minor cliffhanger but she is used to books like Little House on the Prairie. I enjoyed reading this to her and it is head and shoulders above some of of the 'for kids' stuff we've tried.

Kendra Kandlestar and the Door to Unger (The Chronicles of Kendra Kandlestar)
Four days, four books wish it was 2013 already so I could read the next! This is book 2 of the series, and Kendra has just turned 12 and become an apprentice to her Uncle Griffinskitch. Kendra must destroy the Door of Unger, and what a magical adventure she has in doing for with lots of thrills and chills. WONDERFUL!!!Kendra Kandlestar and the Door to Unger (The Chronicles of Kendra Kandlestar)

Great children's book!
It was great to find a good, clean book that both I and my daughters could enjoy - thank you! Children and pre-teens are sure to love this book. I enjoyed it also as I read it to my girls. The characteristics exhibited by Kendra are some that I hope that my children continue to grow and progress. Now we're all looking forward to the rest of the series!

Lender Kandlestar and the door to unger
A wonderful story about friendship, love, hate, prejudice, magic, good and evil! We learn to hate but when you get to know those different than yourself many times you learn that they are good even if they are unique compared to what you consider normal. Great adventure stressing tolerance!

An adult's review
Another great magical adventure. These stories are just adorable. I didn't laugh like I did reading the first one, but it was enjoyable just the same. For the intended audience (8-12) you can't go wrong.

really good
I know it's strange for a thirty something to enjoy middle school age fiction but I was looking for something fun to read. Well I found it. This is a really cute series to read for someone looking for fun and quick. I sped through the chapters. I recommend this series to boys, girls, or old people like me.

This was a great book!
This book is adventurous and unpredictable! I loved every part of it. Kendra is one step closer to finding her family, and I can't wait until I find out what happens next. if you love adventurous books, this one is for you. (read the box of whispers first, though)

A wonderful read
Thoroughly enjoyed it. There is a point to the story that makes the wonderful journey particularly worthwhile... not empty children's lit at all...
