Q: how much does one tube cover?

The recommended coverage is 2 tubes per 4 foot by 8 foot sheet of drywall.

Q: Is this a glue? Does it bound two pieces of wood together as strong like any other wood glue?

No. You wouldn’t use it like regular glue. It’s to help control sound transfer through drywall. Example: if you’re building a studio where your using double sheets of drywall, you would use this substance in between the two sheets to lessen the vibration between the two pieces. It also helps in decoupling. You will definitely need to screw each drywall sheet in separately - it will not hold it like glue and it takes forever to dry.

Q: does it have to be between 2 sheets of plywood, or could it be used between 2 sheets of soundboard sold at Loews or homedepot?

Yes it can be used between 2 layers of soundboard too (performance will be slightly less than when used between layers of drywall)

Q: Is this product water based or urethane based? Anyone use it to glue down stair treads?

I believe it is NOT water based. Other than that, don’t know. However, keep in mind that this product never dries like glue does. It will be gooey forever.
