My older mode computer had a cpu fan that died and it needed replaced. This is a newer model of what I needed. I was really happy that thermal paste came pre installed but make sure you remember that it IS included otherwise you’ll spend an extra $10-$15 on paste you wont need. Just wanted to chime in on install since the instructions were vague. In my case, I was removing an existing Cooler Master sink/fan that had screws. When removed, I saw a silver hole in the motherboard where the screw was. I thought that I was supposed to push the new fan posts into these holes.Turns out, I was looking at a backer-plate for the Cooler Master that allowed the mother board to accept screws. I needed to take the back of the PC case off, and take that plate out (mine was trapped against a piece of the case so it was dodgy for a minute there.) Once that was out, I was able to install the new unit into the holes in the motherboard.Just be careful to push down on the body of the unit first to get the clear plastic posts secured, THEN push down on the individual black tops of each post to expand the clear plastic barbs into place. Came real close to breaking parts off thinking it would just snap into place with enough oomph. Aside from the install, it's quiet and does the job~

My system had a water cooler that silently failed, which in turn overheated the CPU. I was not going back to water cooled after that. This is the fan assembly that came with the CPU new. It is more than enough to do the job. It has 4 pins so it is throttled up when needed, and stays low speed when not needed.My advice. As this is a standard CPU cooling fan that would have come with a CPU, I didn't expect any less of it than for it to fit as intended and do its job, and that is exactly what it did. This is your basic CPU cooling fan and heatsink that would have come with the corresponding CPU as an OEM purchase, which is exactly what I needed to repair the client's computer. Are there other CPU cooling fans and heatsinks out there that could achieve the same results? Of course, but, you are not going to beat the price of this for what you are getting so I would recommend it to anyone looking for the basics on their build or repair.

My CPU fan finally stopped working after 10 years. Got this which is the same fan. Works like a charm.
