The 30-Day Sobriety Solution: How to Cut Back or Quit Drinking in the Privacy of Your Own Home

This is a great book full of solutions...even if all of the others you've tried have failed.
As a retired firefighter/paramedic I am very familiar with the effects of alcohol abuse. I've seen individuals with multiple degrees who had become homeless and started begging to be able to continue their drinking. I've seen numerous alcohol related fatalities due to drunk driving, domestic violence (some ended up in murder), the end stages of cirrhosis, and on and on. The really sad part was when I saw how each one of these stories affected family and loved ones. It wasn't easy to respond to and help these people...especially since I could relate so closely to what the alcoholics were experiencing and feeling. You see, I was an alcoholic, too.I was what they call a "High Functioning" alcoholic. I excelled at my job. I was a paramedic field instructor, I promoted through the ranks, I was respected by my subordinates, and I was trusted by my supervisors. At night on my days off, I would drink heavily...a fifth of vodka a night heavily at my highest. I had been able to reduce my nightly consumption of alcohol down from that insane level, but I was never able to quit or reduce it to one or two beers at night. I had tried many times before but I always reverted back into the same routine of drinking starting at 5 o'clock. This continued on even after I retired. Every time I tried to quit, it felt like I was holding my breath underwater...sure I could do it for a little bit, but I always came up for air. I always came back to drinking. Two years after I retired, I found this book at the bookstore. One evening around 5 o'clock, I came strolling in the house with a 6-pack of beer in one hand and a book on how to achieve and thrive in sobriety in the other. My wife gave me a disapproving smirk and asked if I was really going to read a book on quitting drinking while having a beer. I said I did...and then I did. It's been 33 days since I had a drink...and I don't have any cravings for alcohol. I'm not saying I won't have any struggles in the future, but I have never had such a positive attitude and outlook toward drinking. This book gave me several tools (solutions) that I am now able to use if I start to get overwhelmed by that unbearable craving. This book goes over 30 different "Solutions" to help you find what drives you to drink and what you can do to get past those deep-seated feelings. Some of the exercises were emotionally tough. You really needed to take an in depth look at yourself to see what the root cause of your drinking was. Some of the different solutions weren't for me and I'm sure not all are for everyone. I referred to some of these as foofey and gooey in the forums on their companion website. Coming from a firefighter background, I'm used to solving things with a relatively instant fix...ie. you put water on the fire, when it's out, you go back to the station...there, problem fixed. These solutions require some deep thought with an understanding that there is a process set in place and it takes time. "The 30 Day Sobriety Solution" website is a place where there are a ton of people who experienced similar situations that offered their support to me and wrote about their struggles that were similar to mine. This program has worked unbelievably well for me. I'm so amazed how I feel now. I have control over alcohol...it doesn't control me. My wife is so happy that I went through the 30 day program. We are feeling closer, my relationship with my kids is better, I have new found energy, and I am clear headed.I'm not one to write reviews on Amazon because I believe the old saying to be true..."Opinions are like A-holes, everyone's got one and most of them stink." With that being said, I hope my story my story would offer a little more credibility than the average review. I would like to highly recommend this book to anyone looking for help. This book can be used by anyone who has ever questioned how to reduce or quit drinking altogether. There are 30 different solutions in this book and I'm sure one will work for anyone who really wants to make a change in their life. It's not easy, but nothing in life worth attaining ever is.I'd like to thank Dave and Jack for this incredible book and the companion website. It has changed my life. I thank you...and my wife thanks you!

This is a Life Changer!
Have you ever thought, "Maybe I am drinking too much? I should take a break? Can I relax at the end of the day without a glass of cabernet?" If you are reading this review you have probably had these thoughts. Well you just found the tools to help you take the break and experience life for 30 days without any alcohol. I say tools because this is much more than a book. There is a companion website that has many resources that support the information along with an online community that provides a nice feeling of being connected yet a sense of privacy (note: the website is a work in progress but it's great now and will be awesome when they get it all done!) My drinking had become the switch that helped me relax at the end of the day and became the party I looked forward to on the weekends. I often drank a moderate amount but I often drank in excess. You know all those studies that say red wine is good for you....You do realize they are taking about a 4 - 5 oz serving! Before the 30 Day Sobriety Solution most of my breaks over the last 5 years lasted for 2 to 3 days. So, I took the challenge and made as the authors explain a 100% Commitment to 30 days without alcohol. It was a great 30 days and I learned a lot about myself. I developed other ways to relax and learned that I could go out and be fine without drinking. It was empowering and life changing. I also was able to see the negative impact alcohol was having on my overall health and emotional well being. 30 days became 40 days and when I did return to drinking it was a very different experience. I am still 100% committed to living a life where I do not drink alcohol everyday or in excess. It is no longer the switch I hit to relax. I have learned to take better care of myself and have had some time to explore what I really need at the end of the day. My husband did not read the book with me but just by my example he also cut back his alcohol consumption. So if you are considering quitting or cutting back on your drinking this is a great book to get you started. Good luck on your journey!

From Skeptic to Happily Sober Person
I have to admit, I was very skeptical at first. Addiction is incredibly powerful, and reading a "self help" book would hardly be a comprehensive solution. However, my skepticism was unfounded, and this is much more than just a self-help book. This is a comprehensive, action-oriented program to take control of your life, and embrace sobriety in a very positive way. Whereas AA would require you to admit defeat, turn to a higher power, and go to meetings for the rest of your life, this is more about finding the resources within yourself, and using a variety of cognitive tools to help you say how alcohol is getting in the way of the life you want to have. It's about focusing on what's positive, and what you want in life, rather than dwelling on the negative, or admitting you have a life-threatening disease. This is like a re-programming of your brain, and you will learn to associate alcohol with misery and unhappiness, and to associate sobriety with happiness and success. Just like AA, it works if you work it.The only caveat is that I am new to this approach, and I have used AA to get sober in the past. I have found AA helpful, but only to a point. Also, I am the kind of person that has gradually decided alcohol is not worth it anymore. I am not the kind of one-fifth a day drinker who hides bottles. Some people in AA would not even consider me a real alcoholic. So my advice is if you have a severe problem, you might want to use professional treatment and/or AA in conjunction with this book.Overall, a fantastic contribution to the recovery field and to life in general.

I CAN NOT recommend this book enough - EXCELLENT
This book as been a blessing. It has all that is needed for a great sobriety program. I love that you are in control of how you approach it - 30 days, 60 days - whatever works for you. I am over 2 months now and I have no desire to drink - those days are behind me and life couldn't be better. My nemesis was white wine, drinking every 2 or 3rd night with no "off" button. I found my off button and you can too. I just quit smoking 16 days ago and I am using this book to remind or invigorate myself for staying quit (addiction is addiction). If you fall down or slip.....(we are human), just note what it was that took you down, look for the opportunity to learn from it then get back on the bike! Pedal my friend! :) Progress not perfectionism is what I strive for everyday.

Celebrating One Year of Sobriety
I have been sober for one year and six days as I write this. And I do not believe I would be able to say that had I not discovered this book.I don't know if I was - am - an alcoholic and I'm not interested in the labels of dogmatic, cultish self-help groups. All I know is that for a good fifteen years before reading this book, my consumption of alcohol had become very different from that of most people I know. I was unhappy about this, yet I simply could not imagine my life without alcohol.I'm not going to lie and say it was a breeze. It wasn't. And it's still not on some days. But gosh, was it worth it. The fact alone that I now sleep 7-8 hours a night without once waking up made it worth it. Bliss. Not to mention the colossal amount of free time I won back by not being punctually inebriated every night after work.To the criticism in some of the reviews here I say: yes, the website is now outdated but the book and the meditations on the authors' YouTube channel are all you need. That and willpower and a few hours every day for 30 days. The writing exercises take time to do, and they take time to sink in. Give the daily exercises that time, make it your non-negotiable life priority for 30 days. I started with the book when I had a week off of work. This allowed me to get in gear and find a daily routine I could stick with for the remaining three weeks.Never in my wildest dreams would I have believed you can journal your way out of a bad alcohol habit. But you can, and I did. And I can't recommend this book enough.
