My Garden’s New Top Secret Agent
Who knew that the key to unbeatable home security was simply harnessing the power of the sun? Enter the Eufy Security S230 SoloCam, not just a guardian of the garden, but a green warrior armed with its very own solar panel cape. This isn’t a security camera; it’s a solar-powered sentinel that’s as eco-friendly as it is vigilant. Right out of the box, the S230 had me wondering if I’d need to call in a team of engineers for installation. But fear not, dear reader, for I was pleasantly surprised. Setting it up was easier than deciding what to watch on Netflix. Before I knew it, my new sun-powered sidekick was mounted and ready, no power cords or battery swaps required. The clarity of the footage is like watching a nature documentary shot in my own backyard. The HD video is so sharp, I half expect David Attenborough to start narrating the nightly antics of the local wildlife. And when the sun goes down? The night vision kicks in, turning my garden into a stage for the midnight escapades of foxes and hedgehogs. But the real game-changer is the built-in solar panel. It’s like having a mini sun god perched outside, eternally devoted to keeping my camera charged and ready for action. The S230 sips sunlight by day and stands guard by night, all while sparing me the hassle of battery anxiety. It’s not just smart; it’s sustainably smart. The two-way audio feature has turned me into the Dr. Doolittle of the neighborhood, conversing with birds by day and deterring would-be intruders by the sheer power of passive-aggressive politeness. “Excuse me, could you not?” has never sounded so authoritative. In an age where charging cables clutter our lives, the Eufy S230 SoloCam stands out as a beacon of convenience and reliability. It’s not merely a security camera; it’s a testament to the marvels of modern technology and environmental stewardship. So, to the Eufy S230, I award five gleaming stars. It’s the solar-powered, eco-conscious guardian that’s as kind to the planet as it is tough on trespassers. In the garden of good and evil, this sun-loving sentinel is a clear force for good.

No issues so far!
Installed this over 2 weeks ago in my garden to cover some blind spots. Installation is easy, just 2 screws into the wall. The picture quality is fine at 2k, nighttime/vision in colour, inbuilt speaker and spotlight. All are good and do what is needed for my purpose. Setup via the eufy app was 'ok' but pairing to the network did take longer than expected. I got this item on sale under £100, and I was so impressed I bought another direct from Eufy. If you're on the market for a reliable, self charging camera to safeguard your home etc, I would happily recommend. I have recently purchased 2 more for my parents and set up theirs. Very happy customer.

Poor Eufy Security Products (not recommend to consider)
I purchased multiple Eufy security products with the expectation that they would be reliable and last for years. Unfortunately, several devices failed far sooner than they ever should have. Two solo cameras (model S40 – cost £139 each) developed serious faults — one constantly drains its battery due to a faulty light that never switches off, and the other cannot even connect to the app anymore. On top of that, the video doorbell’s audio stopped working completely, removing its main purpose. When I contacted support, I followed all of their troubleshooting steps, but nothing improved. Once the warranty period passed, the response became extremely unhelpful — despite the fact these issues started much earlier and clearly relate to manufacturing quality rather than wear and tear. Instead of trying to help or stand behind their products, the support team simply stated that nothing could be done. I am genuinely disappointed. Security equipment should be dependable — not fail so quickly or leave you with no protection. Based on my experience, I cannot recommend Eufy products to anyone looking for a trustworthy long-term home security solution. The devices were unreliable, and the after-sales support was poor and dismissive. I regret choosing this brand and would strongly suggest looking for alternatives if you value durability and customer service.

Battery charge over winter months
I don't want to fuel concern about charge of battery, I love this product, great image day and night, compact, and ultra reliable connection. It is mounted with a clear view of the eastern sky, it is winter in the UK and it simply can't get enough direct sunlight to maintain its charge. I have disabled features to preserve battery. But I am reassured by the capacity of the battery and the consumption rate, to be comfortable that it will run for months like this being boosted by the small amount of sunshine that it receives. The app is first class and has a dashboard that clearly shows the charge received and battery level leaving nothing to guess work. So far, very impressed. Update 31 December. It is slightly over one month since it was installed and the battery is now at 20%. I have just retrieved it and it is now being recharged. I am still impressed that it has run for this amount of time considering the miserable and cold weather there's been here in Scotland through December with the level of sunshine decreasing. This sounds more like a weather forecast but the charge very much depends on it. Setting zones, no infrared or visible spotlight has eeked out the battery life. Camera quality is excellent, night and day, and connection continues to be bullet proof.

Excellent Wireless Security Camera – Easy to Use and Reliable! Rating: ★★★★★
I’ve been using the eufy Security S230 SoloCam for a few about 6 months now, and I’m really impressed! Setup was incredibly simple — within minutes, it was up and running without the need for any complicated wiring or hub connections. The app is user-friendly and gives me peace of mind with instant alerts and clear live footage. The video quality is sharp, even at night thanks to the built-in night vision. I also love that it’s completely wire-free and solar-powered, so I don’t have to worry about charging or running cables. The motion detection works well and doesn’t send false alerts, which is a big plus compared to other cameras I’ve tried. Overall, it’s a solid, reliable security camera that gives me confidence my home is well-monitored. Highly recommended if you’re looking for an affordable, high-quality wireless solution!

Everything you ever wanted or needed in a security camera.
Yes, it may seem pricey compared to other cameras but this one is worth every penny. Just the fact that it is solar-powered alone with a very high capacity battery fully integrated, makes this a worthy purchase. Even in the inclement weather, we are experiencing at the moment, it is successfully keeping the battery well within the optimum 40-80% charge range for a Li-Ion battery. Very impressed also with the build quality and weatherproofing so far. Only time will tell how good it really is over a longer period. The EufySecurity app that goes with it (from the Google Play Store or Apple AppStore) is excellent and very comprehensive providing just about any functionality and feature access you can think of for any good security camera setup. The resolution is excellent and zooming in within the app reveals facial detail easily. The built-in storage of 9Gb will be sufficient for most (using the optimum settings related to good battery usage) I would suggest. I could write a comprehensive review 4 times longer than this but you'd probably get bored reading it. Suffice to say that if you want the best available security camera for the home, this is probably as close as you are going to get to that goal for the price of £199. IMPORTANT: You MUST fully charge this camera to 100% (as per the included instructions) BEFORE even trying to install it in the intended location. That location should be in a place where the solar cell top surface is at least facing roughly southwards if possible. (added because of other review comments) Update 09/12/21: I have now installed two of these cameras that were both fully charged to 100% before installation. Both cameras have an approximately southward facing view. The first camera was installed on October 13th and since then its battery has only just fallen to below 70% charge (69% actual) this evening; even though there haven't been many sunny days over the last couple of months. The "Working Mode" is set to "Optimal Battery life" since it is winter (recommended for the UK) which gives a video clip length of 20 secs. The mode will be set to "Optimal Surveillance" once Spring arrives (60-second clips). The second camera was installed on the 23rd November and there has been almost no sunshine in South Yorkshire since then and yet it has only just dropped to 87% charge today; which is still 7% above its optimum top limit charge for a Li-Ion battery. This with almost no sun at all. I would suggest from this evidence that the solar (and ordinary daylight) charging regime in these cameras is easily up to the job of keeping these excellent cameras operational through the winter without having to dismount them for a recharge (which you can do if required). Contrary to other reviews here. I hope this helps.

Good but no cigar
It’s a good camera but not Apple Home compatible, which is staggering when Matter has been out for over two years. The solar charging is adequate and the camera resolution decent; just don’t expect to be able to read a car registration plate at 30 meters. Night vision is acceptable. Needs the Eufy Homebase, so this add-on camera is not the end of the expense!

Brilliant so far in spring/summer. Will update review in winter
I've mounted this on the side of my house overlooking our driveway and it only gets direct sunlight in the afternoon but so far the battery life has been superb. I put it up in early May 2022 and it's not dropped lower than 98% as of July 2022 (I charged it fully before mounting). I'll be updating this review in winter but in the meantime carry on reading below if you're interested. Picture and sound quality are excellent. I've set it to record the maximum 2 minute clip each time. At the end of each day I select all and delete the clips, literally takes 30 seconds to do but there's tons of storage. I've set the activity zone to cover the driveway so the only footfall is myself and family or the neighbours kids fetching a ball or something. It's made the detection each and every time. I mute all notifications during the day as I work from home. You have 5 duration options to mute notifications up to a maximum of 12 hours. My main reason for having this is to keep an eye on the cars on the driveway at night. Picture quality at night is also excellent. Whenever a detection is made the spotlight is set to automatically turn on brightening up the area. All in all this an excellent piece of kit if you don't want to wire up a security camera, not have to worry about having somewhere to store footage and charge device.
