Although this IS RPGlit-- It's a wonderful story whether you read that genre or not
Nice to find a Kindle version of this absolutely wonderful story. The fact that is based on the RPG lit genre should not dissuade anyone who doesn't usually read that genre. It only shows up very occasionally in what is an absolutely wonderful story, and in fact the leveling mechanism as a part of the world is an element of the story that the characters newly introduced to the world have opinions about, and don't always cooperate with.It also has a very poignant theme in the story about what makes someone a monster, or not. It incorporates and plays with fantasy tropes in a way that I find very intelligent and moving. The only downside is that the story, which is essentially a very long series, is currently not all converted to Kindle so I'm currently reading it online. But as soon as each volume becomes available on Kindle I will definitely buy them and probably read the story in that more convenient format! But the five books that are available take you through a very good Arc of the story and is well worth investing your time in. I would recommend the story to anyone who likes fantasy, multi-character series, well- built fantasy worlds... and stories with a LOT of "feels." It's funny, sad, silly, intelligent, all at the right times. It's had me laughing out loud and sobbing, at one point or another. The short version is: again, I would recommend this story to anyone.

Highlight of the series so far
Very emotional ending and everything leading up to it was par for the series. Basically, it was going on as a great, fun read but then the ending made it even better. I'm left wondering about what all the main characters will do and I must get the next book.

Sublime storytelling
Character development as deep as this is rare anymore. I honestly believe that attention spans have become so atrophied that if a story isn’t actionactionaction people tune out, or review the book as too long or boring or has too many characters to keep track of …These books are gloriously long - so long that I doubt they could be published in any paper form. While there are a handful of “MCs” that pop up regularly throughout the books, there are dozens of characters every bit as interesting that could easily command their own individual books. And that is what makes this book and it’s predecessors wondrous - love them or hate them, the characters are so well written that I find a bit of myself in all of them. And they’re not all heroes, paladins and kings, though there are a few of those. No, the two main MCs are an upbeat, inventive innkeeper and a tenacious, highly intelligent runner (courier). It’s refreshing to read a lengthy fantasy series that’s not nonstop sword and sorcery, epic battles and heroic quests … though come to think of it, there’s plenty of that going on, too.Does this book take the series to a dark, depressing place? … Yes it does, but that’s because we’ve come to care for the beleaguered MCs, those who have survived since the beginning and those recently arrived.I’m very much looking forward to the next installment.

Side characters draw a little away
When the collected serial story focused on my favorite characters, I loved the story. But there’s a good portion of the novel that shifts to side characters just introduced or ones briefly introduced in the last book. The stories aren’t bad and I enjoyed them, but I thought the ones that focused on Erin, Rioka, the Antinium or any of the original characters from the 1st book, were just great, especially that ending. Great stuff full of action and some resolution for the plotline developed for some of my favorite characters.Overall, still a really good book that is a serial story collection so it bounces around a bit as it fleshes out new and old characters and their plotlines.Score: 7.8 out of 10

Emotional Rollercoaster (spoilers)
I can day with this book it has been one heck of a ride. This author to say the least is brutal. Don't grow a connection to any of the side characters is my only warning. For all of the emotional scarring this series has given me it still is probably one of the best I have read in a long while. Amazing world and character building. The only issue I can say I have with this serries (besides my favorite character dying of course) is how often the point of view changes from the two main characters Erin and Ryoka. I feel like the longer the series continues the less we see of the two girls and the less and less thier characters are growing. Yes it's nice to have other characters points of view, but when it takes away from the main characters to much then the book becomes dull. With that said, I still love this series so far and hope in the next one we will see more about our main girls and more growth from them as well.

Amazing Series
The last 20% of this book was so tense and had me on a knife's edge. I felt exhausted at the end. This is all in a good way. This series is in my top 3 of any that I have read. It is a marvel of multiple characters and arcs that intertwine and affect each other. It has heart and depth and I can't recommend it enough. It is probably unfilmable, what a triumph it would be if it could be made. I would give much to see the standoff in the Wandering Inn towards the end of this book...I mean, when was the last time a book had my heart racing and eyes wide open?

worth it
Another fun read from this author. It’s a long read/listen but it doesn’t feel overly wordy . I have enjoyed the Audible add on so I don’t have to put the book down .

Making Connections and Expanding the Continents
I have been addicted to this series from the first book, discovering right along with the characters how and how dangerous this world can be and watching them grow. "Flowers" started to break my heart, this one practically ripped it out and still managed to give me hope that something better (and worse) was coming. Five books in and I'm still practically salivating waiting for the next book to come out. Hopefully this brilliantly demonic author (and the accompanying narrator) won't make me wait for too much longer...

Fantastic continuation
The Last Light is the 5th published book in the Wandering Inn series and covers the first half of Volume Four. By this time we’ve settled into a comfortable format for the books. While Erin and Ryoka are obviously still the main characters the side characters get several chapters that focus on them as well. In particular the book starts off by focusing on Flos, The King of Destruction. It’s got to be said, I really love Flos. In a world filled with actual magic and wonder he still somehow managed to be one of the most magical things there. A conquering king whose thoughts are on his people, who has a magnetic personality and attracts people to him and is almost as big as his larger than life personality. We’ve not actually seen much of him up until now, just his awakening and a chapter where some of his Seven return to him, so it was nice to have a nice big segment to properly flesh him out.We also have some chapters back in Baleros, partially centred around Geneva, the Doctor that also appeared in the third book, Flowers for Esthelm. That segment was a brutal and heart-wrenching story and, honestly, this one is the same. Of all the characters in this world I feel she’s had the worst time of it.Finally we have the events in Liscor and they’re a joy to read. From Lyon slowly coming to terms with Erin’s return and working out how best to live alongside her to the Antinium’s continuing search for identity and what it really means there’s a lot of fantastic stuff to read. And Erin’s right alongside all of it, lending a helping hand that may honestly just spark more chaos. It’s great. The ending is also fantastic, as they usually are in this series. Although it’s the first half of the volume you wouldn’t know it by the ending, which has been building up for a while before it explodes. It pulls a bunch of things together and is once again a brilliant, and occasionally sad, series of chapters.I mean if you’ve gotten this far then you probably know what you’re in for. So all I can say is yes, this series continues to be one of the best.

This Is What Epic Fantasy Should Look Like
This series is rapidly becoming one of my favourite long form fantasies. It is an example of what I'm looking for in epic fantasy. In this entry we get several sidestory progress advancement. The King of Distruction is back and is on the rise. We get a look at the character and his motivations as well as his character both as a ruler and human being. We also get to see how skills and abilities change the battlefield. Brutal. I can see how he doesn't fear the possibility of firearms development. He also has some amusing commentary about earth and it's leaders and heros. Hard to disagree with some of it. We also see how Geneva is doing in a world where neutrality of medical types isn't respected. Once again Innworld can be brutal to those without power. A bit like our own world where the only thing keeping some in line is someone more powerful. Things are also coming along back at the wandering inn. Erin discovers the joys of handling employees and office politics. She can be too nice at times but luckily for her Ryoka isn't backwards about saying what needs to be said. Speaking of the climax involves Ryoka and the fallout from delivering a package to the necromancer. A bit sad but somethings are worth sacrificing for and friendship is one. Can't say more without spoiling but it was fitting and in character for all involved. I'm also becoming a fan of the Titan. Clever little devil. Looking forward to reading the next one.

Great fantasy
This is the best new fantasy series I have read this last few years. Cosy at times, but with terrifying and heart wrenching moments. With wonderful characterisation, interesting and varied characters, each book is an improvement on the last, and so delightfully long!
