Use it loads, such a great machine 👏

It works, whereas previous cheaper blu ray drives have not. No issues, just plug and play. It is also very quiet (which was an unexpected pleasant surprise). If you want a small portable drive, this is not it. But if you want an drive that works and 'feels' like it wasn't thrown together, this may be it. Have only used with BluRay discs so far.

Decent quality my only criticism is it can be awkward to turn on and off at times

Its expensive, it's not the latest style, but it's right for me. I've had on of the new CD drives with the horrible click to secure style & I have always disliked it as Im always worried about not loading the disc correctly & lets not even talk about removing the disc. Disappointed I had to buy a Uk power lead as this was only supplied with a 2 pin euro version. Generally very happy, not fussed about playing Blu Rays, DvD's, I just wanted a CD Rom like this. Rip's CD's to my Mac at a good speed & has been of perfect quality. And before anyone questions what I do I, rip my CD's so I can play then off my Mac & I store all of my CD's (and I have a huge collection) as I don't have the space in my room. I recommend this CD to anyone needing a quick, reliable, efficient device with a power plug (see previous note) and excellent functionality. Mid May 2025 Disc has started to fail. Miss reads discs not being read. I’ve reverted back to my old CD / Blu Ray and despite my reservations works perfectly. I can’t recommend this disc any more and have dropped the star rating.

Solid build quality, plays most things plug and play in windows. Not burnt any discs so far so cannot comment. ripped lots of cd s to computer has worked great. Only complaint is no software for bluray playback.

I had high hopes for this drive, bearing the ASUS name I hoped I was buying into quality, but in fact, the opposite. My main reason for the drive was to digitise the rest of my disc based media. The review is regarding the drive, not the seller who I would highly recommend. Please read to see if the drive is for you. I have not burned any media as of yet so cannot review that. Also, it came with a euro style plug so I had to find and use my own figure 8 power lead. The drive is happy with most BD25 bluray disks and most dvds. BD50 is a bit of a hit 'b' miss affair. Reading audio CDs is horrendous, especially towards the inner of the drive which is becomes very inaccurate. The drive is noisy when running at a reasonably high speed - and I mean VERY noisy. At one point (About the 5th disc I tested) the disc got stuck in the drive. It just would not eject. The motor went through the cycle, but the tray would not eject. The (stupid) flap on the front made it tricky to get to the manual ejection hole. However even this wouldn't eject the disc. In the end, I gave it a gentle tap which seemed to align the disc and I could eject it. (yes, it was gentle) The plus side is when it decides to read your disc, it does so and rapidly. It was easy to set up on my W11 PC, just plug and play. I can only give this drive 2 stars as it can rapidly eat through my DVD collection. Anything else can be a bit of a gamble.

Fast and efficient machine. I like the fact that it is heavier than some others which means it does not easily slide when closing the disc draw. The only negative thing, I would say, is that in Windows the Eject button is not obvious. It seems to be a edge panel on the right side as I face the unit, and I have yet to get the correct position for my finger the first time. But it has only been one day.

Perfect! The only thing that could bother some is the size. This is a full size 5.25 drive enclosure. Mine was a Pioneer drive inside which is a huge plus. Don’t know if all are. Read and writes anything. At the fastest speeds. Good tool for a laptop were you might not use discs for a long time. When you need, just hook it up to read and write.

Ik was eerlijk gezegd op zoek naar een interne blu-ray brander, echter zijn deze niet meer verkrijgbaar. Hierdoor ben ik voor deze externe brander gegaan. Tot ophalen geen problemen ondervonden en backups kunnen maken van oude schijfjes.

Wer braucht überhaupt ein externes Laufwerk? 1. Menschen, die Hardcopy Medien auf ihrem neuen Rechner abspielen möchten. Wenn ihr eine DvD/BlueRay Sammlung habt, jedoch keinen Fernseher und/oder BlueRay Player. Leider ist es so, dass viele Desktop Gehäuse inzwischen keine Öffnungen mehr haben um Laufwerke selbst nach zu rüsten, einfach weil die meisten Leute eh lieber Streaming nutzen. 2. Leute, die regelmäßig Sicherheitskopien von Daten auf M-Disk brennen müssen oder wollen. 3. Individuen, die andere Dinge wie z.B. selbst gemachte Musik auf Tonträger festhalten wollen. Welche Arten von externen Laufwerken gibt es? Die überwiegende Zahl der auf Amazon angebotenen Laufwerke sind slim drives, also möglichst klein und flach. Ich hatte zuerst selbst so eines, und zwar ein Verbatim 43888, das vergleichsweise teuer war. Bei Laufwerken mit Gehäuse, wie diesem Asus BW-16D1X-U gibt es jedoch nicht so viel Auswahl. Sie nehmen mehr Platz weg, brauchen einen eigenen Storm Anschluss (während slim einfach über USB versorgt wird) und kosten auch mehr. Wieso gibt es dann überhaupt noch die großen Laufwerke mit Gehäuse? Für die allermeisten Benutzer sind die slim Laufwerke die bessere Wahl. Spart Geld, spart Platz, kann man überall mit hin nehmen. Aber wer es darauf abgesehen hat in erster Linie seine BlueRay Sammlung am PC zu genießen, für die ist dieser Typ Laufwerk ungeeignet weil sie allesamt eine sehr niedrige Lese-Geschwindigkeit haben. Mein Verbatim liest BlueRays mit x4, dieses Asus jedoch mit x16 genau wie ein fest eingebautes Asus Laufwerk. In der Praxis bedeutet das mit einem slim Laufwerk hockt man fast zehn Minuten herum während der Leawo Player den Inhalt einer Anime Serien BlueRay vorbereitet. Es war einfach nur nervtötend, da man bei Serien ja auch regelmäßig den Datenträger wechseln muss. Mit dem Asus ist die Sache nach 20 Sekunden eingescanned und man kann den Film genießen. Wohlgemerkt obwohl die Hersteller der kleinen Teile versprechen, dass ihre slim Laufwerke über USB 3.0 super schnell arbeiten würden - tun sie eben nicht. Das gilt jedoch nur für BlueRay. Die erheblich kleinere Daten Menge einer DvD bereitet auch das Verbatim nach wenigen Sekunden vor. Zum ASUS BW-16D1X-U selbst ist zu sagen es ist echt toll. Meiner Meinung nach sieht es gut aus. Der an/aus Schalter, über den manche hier meckern, ist einfach ein Schieberegler an der Hinterseite zum Storm sparen. Lässt sich sehr leicht blind ertasten. Die große Leuchte an der Vorderseite lässt einen auch nicht vergessen ab zu schalten. Die gesamte Konstruktion wirkt hochwertig und solide. Die CD Schublade öffnet sich per Knopfdruck (rechts neben der Laufwerks Öffnung vorne) und ist von der Konstruktion genau wie bei den fest eingebauten Versionen, wackelt nichts, klappert nichts, fällt nichts heraus. Kein Vergleich mit den winzigen slim Laufwerken wo kaum das Medium hinein passt. Der Platzverbrauch ist auch nicht so schlimm wie ich es mir vorgestellt hatte - kann man meinem Bild entnehmen. Das Teil passt unter einen nicht Höhen verstellbaren Bildschirm drunter. Der Preis bei meiner Bestellung lag bei 139€ und ich finde das ist es auch wert gewesen. Für ein vergleichbares LG Laufwerk hätte ich 180€ bezahlen müssen, aber bei der Qualität scheint es trotzdem keine Abstriche zu geben. Wie sie sehen können, ist der Anwendungsbereich für das ASUS BW-16D1X-U und vergleichbare Laufwerke relativ schmal. Aber sie bedienen eine echte Versorgungs-Lücke und manche Leute brauchen tatsächlich genau das. Kaufen sie sich diesen Artikel nicht, wenn: - sie nur Sicherheitskopien erstellen wollen - sie Wert auf Mobilität legen - sie DvD und CD-Rom Medien, jedoch keine BlueRay abspielen möchten Kaufen sie nur dann, wenn: - sie BlueRays schauen wollen Für alles andere ist ein günstigeres slim Laufwerk ausreichend schnell.
