A wonderful alternative to finicky polyurethanes
Yep, it's great. The easiest, fastest high-gloss wood finish I know of. Application doesn't require any special care (although you want to seal pores with dewaxed shellac first) and compared to polyurethanes, the result is almost always defect-free. Sanding between coats is not necessary, but if you need to fix any issues, it can be attempted within 30-60 minutes without taking any risk. After the final coat, the project can be handled within 30-60 minutes, too. Compare this to having to wait between 6 and 72 hours when using most polyurethanes. The end result typically exhibits high gloss without any special buffing, but if necessary, it polishes and buffs very easily - more so than most poly coats. There are just two trade-offs. First of all, the lacquer is solvent-based and uses some fairly aggressive and harmful solvents, so it stinks to high heaven; work outside. Secondly, nitrocellulose finish, although fairly tough, is more vulnerable to abrasion, alcohol, acids, and water than polyurethane or epoxies. In practical terms, this means that it's a good choice for cabinets, boxes, and perhaps some lightly-used salad or fruit bowls. It is a markedly poor choice for kitchen tables, kitchen countertops, and other high-use surfaces. I attached a photo of a pencil case finished with this lacquer.

Good for finishing guitar necks
With the popularity of DIY Guitar kits I thought I would post this review to let folks know this product is good for finishing guitar necks. For best results without buffing it is best to sand every scratch out of the wood first. I start with 320 and move up to 600 before the first coat. If you have a maple fingerboard there is no need to mask off the frets. Spray two or three coats and let dry an hour before light sanding with 800 to remove any orange peel. Completely remove any dust (tack rag) before adding more coats. I do three coats, sand, three more coats, let dry overnight and then sand perfectly flat and add two more coats. No buffing needed.

Awesome, deep gloss
Sure - this is a nice deep gloss finish. Not high gloss, but a great, classic wet wood finish. Just like you will see on any Gibson or Fender today. A single can will easily cover a LP style guitar from rough wood to finished product and this is multiple coats with sand downs between coats. Just make sure you use a wood sealer first and Deft makes a great sealer as well. But the absolute best feature of this product is the spray nozzle; the best I have ever used in an off the shelf spray can. Good consistent results, no spits, no clogs. All the way down to empty. Just remember to always invert and clean between applications and you will get a consistent 3" fan. Same results with multiple cans now.

This Lacquer is THEE REAL DEAL!
I have been using this lacquer on many projects and all you need to do is PUT ON LIGHT COATS! If you MISS a spot or think you did not get enough on a spot-DO NOT try to spray RIGHT ON IT! JUST come BACK with your SECOND spray and make sure to go over that missed area! after you do 2 coats --LET IT SIT, for about 20 minutes( if it is tacky to the touch- just wait 5 more minutes) Then-- take a piece of a brown PAPER bag-- and rub( yes- brown paper bag piece)-- let this sit and then, spray 1 more coat (this coat is OPTIONAL)! JUST don't stand and FLOOD a spot, because you missed that spot! Remember to keep moving and lite coats! Deft Dries SO MUCH BETTER and MUCH quicker than ANY other lacquer I used! After you are done, look at your project over next few days-- it WILL have a a harder, clean, bright look( i used GLOSS)! Deft looks BETTER WITH TIME, and NO POOLING, as it does self level! Make SURE to WEAR A FULL MASK and goggles( safety first) This was used ONLY on OIL and SOLVENT based projects-- this is OIL based Lacquer and I have not used it on ACRYLIC paint!

Good product with nice glossy finish
This product leaves a nice hard finish which has a little depth after 3 coats. I was able to spray the coats about 45 minutes apart with no sanding in between, even in damp weather. I found that it took a few more days to really harden though. It took me 3 cans to spray 3 coats on 5 degree-sized picture frames. I'm giving 4 stars because the finish becomes much less even with little bubbles when you get about 2/3 into a can. So I was unable to use the full can. Overall, I would recommend this product and will buy more to use again. Just make sure to really shake it for a minute (no marble) and turn upside down and clear the nozzle as instructed before spraying.

does its job
has become my "go to" for spraying small projects; just be careful because I believe this is nitrocellulose which is very toxic; i wear my mask/respirator, hold my breath, and spray outside, but it does a very nice job with minimal drips and runs.

Not the same thing - read
The item received is not Deft. It is the updated version with the new and terrible sprayer nozzle- the product is supposed to be the same, but it is not - attempting to return as the premium price is only worth it for the old nozzle.

I build electric gits. If you follow the directions and use only Deft nitro sanding sealer and gloss or semi gloss you will not go wrong. Remember to invert and clear those cans if they are going to sit more than 2 min because the stuff dries very fast. I keep the nozzles from old cans (cleared) to swap out if I have issues with new cans. I have used many cans of this stuff and I can always count on it to have predictable professional results. It will go over waterslide and temp tattoo graphics without harming them too!

This is the first time I have used this product although I have heard it mentioned on many guitar building videos. I used it to clear-coat my own guitar build (warming it slightly by placing it in a plastic bag in a container of warm tap water), and it was easy to use and did a beautiful smooth finish - I will use it again.
