The minwax we used was perfect! Our cabin in the woods is now a real head turner. It was so easy to use, dried beautifully & the description online was accurate . pristine finish! Will definitely buy thus again!

I have been a Cabinet Maker for 40 years. I have tried everything you can imagine from lacquers, Shellacs, & varnishes. Solvent based and water based. This is by far the best oil based varnish ever made. Most varnishes dry to the touch in 3-4 hours and can recoated in 12- 24 hours. This one dries to the touch in 30 minutes and can be recoated in 3-4 hours. It is the most scratch and wear resistant varnish I have ever used. Minwax says that it can be used for floors. I have used it on floors and it has held up remarkably well. Most varnishes and poly's are not recommended for floors. This varnish adds a lite brownish yellow tone to the wood. Most varnishes I have used add a much darker honey tone to the wood. Price wise, for some reason, this is one of the least expensive varnish I have come across. One other thing if the varnish gets scratched, or water damaged it can be lite sanded and recoated and will look like new.

This pre-stain is for oil-based stain and it is necessary if you plan to apply stain to soft woods. I even had to use this on Birch to keep everything from blotching. Just be aware that once you start you only have a 2-hour window to apply the stain. Not a game changer but just something to be aware of. And of course it's minwax and works quite well with their minwax oil base stains.
