All Directions

Had so much temp music, but had to get rid of my vinyl albums. Since losing the last two greats-Damon and Richard-I wanted it all back. Never really cared for the group after Damon left even tho Richard was still there hanging in for his "dear life". So this cd and any I come across ( 71-75) are like Xmas to my ears. Thanks for MY memories!!!

One of their great albums. I have their 'Emperors of Soul' CD box set, and purchased this because I wanted the long/full version of 'Papa Was A Rolling Stone'.

The temptations is the greatest and their music lives on in time. It takes me back to my high school days and after my days beyond to today.

"All Directions" was made not long after the break-up of The Temptations classic five lineup of David Ruffin, Eddie Kendricks, Paul Williams, Otis Williams, and Melvin Franklin. This lineup of Dennis Edwards, Franklin, Otis Williams, Damon Harris, and Richard Street, would be considered one of the all-time lineups if it wasn't for that classic five grouping.Here we have them singing on just a fabulous, but somewhat underrated album. I usually don't like live tracks on my studio albums but "Funky Music Sho 'Nuff Turns Me On" is fantastic and a great way to kick off the album. The controversial, but excellent "Run, Charlie, Run" is next, and we're off running! By the time the third song - the legendary "Papa Was a Rolling Stone" -- sets in, all 12 minutes of it -- and "All Directions" is now on legendary album status."Mother Nature" is a classic, Dennis Edwards singing a fabulous ballad here. The Roberta Flack tune "First Time Ever I Saw Your Face" is wonderfully done by Harris' falsetto. "I Ain't Got Nothin'" is a tremendous ballad with fantastic harmonies. "Love Woke Me Up This Morning" (ballad) and a re-make of Isaac Hayes' funky "Do Your Thing" wrap-up the album. Quite an eclectic grouping of songs on "All Directions", fantastically done by one of the greatest groups of all time.

Now this 1972 album is a classic by The Temptations, i was able to purchase this back in 2001, it was in a set that included 2 classic albums on 1 disc. Just like the title says "All Directions", the group brings music from funk, soul, and ballads. I remember as a young boy seeing this on vinyl in my father's album collection, and that album was old and i could tell that he got his use out of it. Every track on this album was on point from "Run Charlie Run", "Love Woke Me Up This Morning", "Mother Nature", "I Aint Got Nothing" and last but not least "Papa Was A Rolling Stone", and what i like about "Papa..." is that the first couple minutes are instrumental, VERY FUNKY!..And on this piece the late Damon Harris & the late Richard Street are introduced, and they both have lead solos, and when hearing Damon you would think its Eddie Kendricks. Now some of these songs were cover songs and The Tempts turned them into hits. I really enjoyed "I Aint Got Nothing" with Otis on lead, b/c Otis rarely sung lead on the Tempts song, he more so did spoken intros.All i can say is get this cd if you havent already

バランスが悪そうで実はとても絶妙なバランス感覚のアルバムだと感じました。短めの俗に言う歌物もあり、M3のようなサイケ感丸出しの曲もあり…。少なくとも自分にとっては最高のアルバムでした。緩急のつけ方が良いんだろうと思います。これはノー文句で名盤です！

今聞いてもいい曲が多いです！好きな人には買いです！音も悪くない。

何とアルバムバージョンの１２分弱にも及ぶ超大作。この１曲欲しくてアルバム購入したけど千円シリーズなのでまあいいかと、それほどの名曲なんです。そのせいかほかの曲がどうにもかすんでしまうような後味が残る。
