Easy to sculpt
Did exactly what I wanted. It is soft enough to carve with dull tools used to work clay. That makes it easy to use, and the minimal amount of force required makes it less dangerous than carving most wood. It isn’t so soft that it deforms or crumbles when working with it, although I was careful with it (you could indent it with a fingernail if it were pressed against it. It does produce a lot of dust, but that should be expected with this type of material. I mainly worked over a tray and rinsed it and my hands off when finished. Despite its foam content, the dust doesn’t cling via static electricity like styrofoam bits do. You can make crisp angles with it even with its softness, but those are easy to dull with handling before it is covered. I’m using it to make Japanese family crests that will be attached to fukigaeshi on a kabuto (ear guards on a type of ancient Japanese helmet). The crest has a few delicate details that are less than a millimeter in size, and I’ve been pleased with how they readily stand out. I was going to apply gesso x 2 as a primer before painting them gold, but I think gesso might obliterate these details, so I can’t say how well it primes or handles paint.

Easy to carve, but not too soft.
Great product. I have used it previously for carving/modeling.I even purchased one as used -like new. Surprisingly, while a little worn on the corners, it was in otherwise great condition.

The real stuff
I wanted something similar to professional cast taxidermy forms, and that's what this is. Dense, cuts and sands like balsa wood but without the grain. I tested it with my hot wire foam cutter, which failed miserably - so lesson learned. Switched to my jigsaw and got excellent results. Be warned, the sanding and saw dust is nasty stuff. Almost like silica in feel. Highly recommend for taxidermy forms where strength, durability, detail, and consistency are crucial.

Perfect for carving!
Love this stuff! Perfect for carving into whatever I want it to be.

Really need to have nice tools to smoothly carve
I think nicer tools would allow for this to be more easily & smoothly carved. We struggled to carve with the manual tools at our disposal, but I think a heated/electric tool would've been better. If you don't have one, consider getting one, or picking a different sculpture block

Wonderful but there is a learning curve
First time using Sculpture Block. I wanted to carve a sand castle. This material was unlike any other. I wasn’t able to cut or slice large chunks, because it is a very dense material.Shaving thin slices, and sanding with several different rasps and files, was the way I found best to work with it. It was a challenge, but the results were definitely worth it.I’m looking forward to using it again for my next project.

Super dusty, super sculptable
It's what you expect it is. If material is removed from anything, it will make dust, but this dust seems especially dusty. Maybe because it's so light.

Easy to carve
I made 3D shapes for engineering drawing training. It was easy to carve using a simple wood hand-saw. Be careful, though, the foam sloughs off a lot of powder, so I painted them after carving for easier, cleaner handling.
