A perfect book -- too perfect
Ben Slocum answers his door to find the beautiful Claire Chastain who shocks him when she tells him he has a nine-year-old son he never knew about. What's more, the son, Sam, has been abducted. Claire joins Ben in his quest to find his son. However, before many pages are turned we find Ben and Claire naked and doing the nasty. A few more pages and they're doing it again. Over the following pages they're at it again. Now I enjoy reading about sex -- but over and over again? Well, I guess some folk like it. However the pair do find clues that lead them to the name of the abductor (Troy) and to his escape route and they're off in hot pursuit. Unfortunately, the only really bloody part of the story happens when Ben finds his son and his abductor at cockfight and Ben gets shot, temporarily, interrupting his plan to rescue Sam.With the help of the agency with which Ben is employed they locate the stronghold in the swamps where Sam is being held and made to do hard labor. It is heavily fortified, dangerous and impossible to approach without detection. Nevertheless, Ben, with the help of his friend, Tyler, borrow a small boat and in darkness find their way through the uncharted bayou and, by chance, find Sam doing something with a bucket at the water's edge. They quickly rescue both Sam and his dog and escape without harm.Several times during this saga Claire is accosted by her ex-boyfriend, Michael. He still loves her and wants her back. Because Ben doesn't seem to want their relationship to go much beyond just sex, Claire leaves him and, though she's not nuts about Michael, their thing starts to heat up again. But, providentially and sadly, Michael (who is working under cover to expose a major drug dealer) is murdered. Claire's home is tossed and destroyed by unknowns searching for something vital to their enterprise.Lo and behold, almost unbelievably, Sam, along with Claire, is again abducted by the same miscreants who nabbed him the first time. Once again, though no one has a clue who done it (they thought it was the drug dealer) Ben and his gang set out to rescue them once more. Now Troy and his band of bad guys are entrenched deeper and more inaccessibly into the swamps and bayous. But through the marvel of modern technology Ben's bunch are able to detect their hideout and, without harm or injury, once again rescue Sam and Claire.Back in their safe, secure home it's no time before Ben and Claire are once again lustful and naked. Now, though, Sam is pestering them to get married and, finally, Ben is softening his antipathy to the idea. A perfect ending. If you are the type of reader who is rigid with fear in anticipation of what is about to befall the hero, this is really not your read. I actually liked the story though it was more an adult fairy tale than a serious action saga. This was my first Kat Martin. I plan on reading her again on my trusty Paperwhite Kindle.

LOVE BIG BEN!
This series gets better as you read them. I couldn't stop I would have to make sure I had nothing important the next day to do, because I knew I would be reading all night or at least a huge part of the night.I'm sad the series has come to an end but the last book connects with the beginning of a new series, but it starts with the 2nd book of new series instead of the 1st. So you have to go back to the first to understand the 3rd book in the series,BUT the hassle is worth it.Kat Martin will make up for it for sure. Give it a try ladies, won't disappoint you.Ben gave me sleepless night, Claire is a very lucky woman. She is a remarkable woman to go through what she did, from her best friend's ex-boy friend, her ex-boy friend and Ben, YOU GOT TO READ IT!

another great romantic suspense from Kat Martin
Eight books into this series and it's still as strong as ever. Kat Martin has delivered another hot alpha man with great suspenseful story.Ben's your typical hard-headed alpha man. He got burnt once in the love department and has sworn off ever falling in love again ever since. He wanted to be a Navy Seal and he successfully was till an injury took him out. He's now been working as a PI at his best friend Trace Rawlins firm. What he never expected was to come home from one of his night stands and find a woman on his door step telling him that he had a nine year old son from the woman who broke his heart all those years ago and that she was dead and his son was missing.Claire Chastain is a social worker who had been assigned Laura and Sam's case when Laura went on assistance for a short time. During that time Claire became good friends with Laura and came to love Sam like her own. When Laura died of cancer Claire did all she could to try and adopt Sam. When that didn't work he went into the foster care system which is where he disappeared from. She'd heard all about Ben and knew his training as a Navy Seal would be conducive in finding Sam.The journey Ben and Claire go on to find Sam takes them too many states as they follow the clues. During this time Ben and Claire agree to no attachment sex to sate there strong attraction to each other but that doesn't quite work out so well for them.Along with the figuring out and finding who took Sam there is also another side story going on with an ex-boyfriend of Claire's who manages to bring even more danger to her door. This was another great romantic suspense from Kat Martin and I look forward to the next in this series.

Review by Diva Donna
I picked up the first book in this series. Against the Wind. I loved it so much. I had to buy all Nine books in the series immediately. This is book eight. The characters are strong and brave and so sexy. IN This book the Hero is a ex Navy SEAL looking for his Son he didn't know he had fathered. He has one Gunshot. To make it right or lose it all. The story is romantic, with sizzling sex, action packed and suspense filled. Kat Martin draws a fast gun, when it comes to telling this story. She hits you with both barrels. Tears at your Heart Strings.

Exceptional stories... every time. Great reads!
Never disappointed with anything Kat Martin presents. Her stories are relatable and yet filled with daydreaming fantasies for women who long for the romance they may only experience through her well written words.

Ben and Claire
The characters Ben Solcum and Claire Chastain were real in the sense that was presented. Ben so unaware of being a father took control when he found out that his son had been kidnapped. Claire loyal to her friend and Ben's former girlfriend and love of his life as she truely believes Ben does not care. When Sam the son is kidnapped by a radical man out for revenge, Ben immediately goes into action to find his son even though his emotions are all over the place. Claire so determine to help and save Sam because of the love she has for the boy is not sure how to approach Ben and is somewhat hostile to him until she has had time to get to know him. Fast paced, hard to put down. Enjoyable.
