A Very Nice Model of the Spitfire
I recently purchased this model of the RAF Spitfire. I found it to be a very nice model. The parts are accurate and well-made, and I had a lot of fun putting it together. If you are a fan of model airplanes or the RAF Spitfire, I recommend this model.

Great for beginners or trying out more advanced procedures.
This is no museum quality model. It has only 34 parts and, as others have stated, it has flaws which, depending on luck of the draw, could be major or minor. It's a great starting kit and a great opportunity for a parent/child project. Others have stated best for 10 yrs and up but I don't see why a bright younger child couldn't handle it with some help along the way. These are great learning opportunities too. Beginning experience in assembly, reading prints and following instruction and learning something about history along the way too. Having practically no internal detail keeps it simple and much can be done to cure ill fitting parts with some putty. For a child, simple painting will have them soon "vroommmmming" around the room or patience and care can render this into a rather remarkable looking little model. Someone pointed out that the wheel wells are mere holes. If you're going to hang the plane from the ceiling, put the wheels up. If standing on it's gear on the shelf, who'll notice? For budding model builders, this is a great experiment. It's simplicity and the 1:48 scale is a handy size to work with. Its low price makes it a fine candidate for trying out more advanced procedures. If all goes well it becomes a thing of pride. If not, hide it under the bed(;^}) and grab another. Either way, you can't go wrong. For myself, I am going to work on a more advanced Spit (an ICM product from Czechoslovakia) while helping my son out on his (this) Revell. Finally, it is fair odds I built this same kit myself 40 some years ago. Despite it's flaws, I give it 4 stars just for it's many possibilities.

Patently exciting.
Although I hate working with models smaller than 1/32 scale, I am starting to enjoy the challenges associated with detailing smaller scales. It is important to remember one important fact when buying a model kit; the higher the number the smaller the size. 1/32 is bigger than 1/48 and 1/72 is smaller than 1/48. I typically choose the scale for the type of model I build, i.e.: cars & trucks are 1/6, 1/24, 1/25, 1/32; military are either 1/35 or 1/48; ships are usually 1/350. Also the scale of the models reflects the actual size of you subject matter: cars, trucks, tanks, aircraft carriers. The smallest scales are best when building dioramas and model railroading.

parts problems cause one to take extra steps.
parts didn't fit well. But, being handy allows one to complete it. Anyway, it looks good in my room.

would have been a disaster if I didn't look at the parts first
would have been a disaster if I didn't look at the parts first. I was totally exited to get started on this model! a few days after receiving it I began to look through the bags of parts, trying to imagine the detail it would have when it was finished. I always look at the windshield to see what kind of masking will be required to make it look good, and I noticed that the whole front piece of the canopy was completely absent. So, I looked in the directions to find the part number. It was there but it was a totally unrecognizable, a deformed chunk of crap on the clear parts tree. It didn't even begin to resemble the part it was supposed to be in any way. It would have been a total disaster to put hours into this model only to find a part that you couldn't possibly do without was not there. I'm glad I looked through the parts bags before I ripped into them. I think that will be standard procedure from now on. I've never had this problem before with any model, but I think I would steer around Revell in the future if possible. I hear again and again that Tamiya is the best, they are usually twice the price but 3 times as many parts, which is done purposely to add more detail. I give this product an F since there was no way I could have possibly made a decent looking finished model with the parts that were provided. I have worked with other Revell models before and have never had this problem so it may be a fluke, but I will always double check everything before opening the bags and I will always use a market place like Amazon where returning defective products is simple and painless.

When finished, it looks like the real thing.
The model is rather small but when finished it looks good. Be careful not to put parts near heat because they can melt rather quickly. I have noticed that the price of plastic and/or wood models has increased dramatically. I used outdoor enamel in little jars which you can get at Michaels. The jars cost about $1.00 each. It is less messy to use and easy to clean up.
