Turbo Heat Shield Turbocharger Blanket Wrap Spring for Subaru WRX Gold

I installed this on a 2007 Subaru STI with a stock turbo. My main purpose for buying this was to try to decrease under hood temps and keep the heat around the turbo. I will start off by saying this is the first turbo blanket I've purchased. This product looks like the big brand name versions, but at an affordable price. The turbo blanket looked good enough. I didn't observe any loose threads or material, it looked durable enough, but only time will tell.The install was pretty straight forward, I used the supplied spring fasteners. I laid it over the turbo, positioned the groove against the wastegate, but made sure that it didn't obstruct the wastegate. The turbo location is in a tight spot so feeding the springs were a pain in the butt. I attached a metal zip tie to the spring and fed it through, then slowly pulled the spring through the back side of the turbo. The turbo blanket has stayed on tight. If the spring fastener is too much, you could use metal wire to fasten it.

I got this after I lost my oem heat shield on my ‘05 Outback XT with a VF52 turbo and it hold temps fairly nicely! The only downside is installing it as it has 2 long springs and have to get creative. I used a long angled needle nose plier to wrap it around the turbo.

Fit well. Kind of hard to get the springs in to secure it. I put them on one side and then crimped the hook down so they couldn’t fall off. Then wiggled the front one between the uppipe flange. The other spring I think is sitting on my downpipe. It’s holding well though. Not sure how it is for the heat yet but time will tell.

The item arrived on time from the seller. The turbo blanket appear to be of good quality. It greatly reduced heat radiating from the hot side of the turbo. I can confirm that it fits over a Blouch TD05 16gxt. If you do not have the heatshields in place, blanket can be easily installed in 10 minutes. Totally worth the low cost, highly recommend.

So happy! Installed it on my 2011 wrx. As far as I can tell, it is the same quality as the ptp and cobb, but less than 1/4 the price. The clearance between the turbo and transmission is a little too tight for the hooks to fit, if you drop it down the back of the turbo and wiggle it forward into place it fits extremely well and has no interference with the waste-gate actuator. I reinstalled the factory heat shield over it. Went for a drive and did a few hard pulls and there was almost no heat radiating from the back corner of the engine bay. We will see how it does on track, but so far all is well.2 year update: Two full seasons of track use and weekend driving and it was still in excellent shape.

The media could not be loaded.  On time delivery AND the product is exactly what I expected and more. The only suggestion is somehow making the eyelet on the spring ends stronger however they are sufficient and the design is accurate, and functional.

12-13-18 UPDATE: The manufacturer was very good about replacing this defective blank even though I was slightly over the one year mark. They even sent it FedEx from China. So big thumbs up to them for customer service. They have also improved the design so hopefully I do not have the same issue as before. There is now a thin metal mesh lining the underside of the blanket (see new pictures, not sure if the updated version is what Amazon is shipping out these days). That should help keep the fiberglass material from flaking apart. We'll see in another year how it holds up. I'm updating my review to 5 stars for the combo of price and service I got from this vendorInstalled on my 2004 Subaru WRX with stock turbo. Fit is pretty good. I didn't use the included springs, instead used some steel cable wire to secure it (picture frame hanger wire). I use it in addition to an aftermarket heatshield. Living in south Florida I need every bit of help fighting heatsoak. It's held up fine for almost a year now, we'll see how long it continues to hold up :)UPDATE: I need to do some exhaust work so I removed the blanket to get to the downpipe, and after 15 months this is what the blanket looks like. There are holes on the underside and the inner material is flaking out and leaving dust on the turbo. It's also very stiff and "crunchy" feeling. I'm not sure how effective it is in this condition. The outside still looks good though. I'm not sure what the useful life of a turbo blanket is, but I feel it should last more than a little over a year. I will be contacting Hiwowsport and see what they say. I will update my review after I hear from them.

I was skeptical when I ordered this, seeing as how other blankets are often well over $100. But it really did help quite significantly! I have a front mount intercooler set up on my car, and the turbo was getting the charge pipe really hot (I can only imagine how hot it gets TMIC set ups). For figures, the outside of the charge pipe was easily 160°F, and after adding the blanket it dropped to ~110°F pretty good for a little $25 blanket! Definitely recommend if you run a stock intercooler.

Seems to work great! smelled horrible until the smoke burnt off but now it's good. the springs seem like they won't last in the high heat situation but I used them anyways. we will see. So far very happy!
