I Love This Scanner
Like many others, I have multiple boxes of old photos, and I've started on the project of converting them to digital images. I put a lot of time into researching photo scanners, and the ones I was interested in were pretty pricey. Timewise, this project is out of the question using the flatbed scanner available in my printer. After a lot of research, I decided on this Plustek scanner. I've had it for about 7 or 8 months now, and I love it. You can scan up to 50 photos at a time with no buttons or adjustments - just feed the photos in one at a time. At 300dpi, the process is fast. The images drop into Plustec's software, and you have the ability to do some editing and color adjustment. I've found that this software works well for me, is easy to use, and is all I need. I just want to get all these photos scanned in and organized and I'm not terribly interested in any serious editing at this point. I'm especially happy with the color enhancement that's available for those old color photos from decades past that are fading or turning yellow - it really gives those photos new life, just by clicking on a button or two. I have other photo editing software on my laptop, and I'll worry about serious editing later, if I even decide to go that far. After I've made any quick color adjustments, I just move the photos onto my hard drive, where I can organize them., and save them on an external hard drive. The Plustek scanner does a great job and has a very attractive price tag. The user manual is detailed and very helpful. I've heard good things about the customer service, but I haven't needed to use it. There's also a case available for it here on Amazon, and I keep it in the case on my desk to eliminate dust. The scanner doesn't take up much room on the desk, so I keep it there to work on my scanning project when I have a little extra time. I recommend this scanner for anybody who's looking to tackle a photo archiving project without breaking the bank.

This thing is a BEAST!
I started a project decades ago scanning in old photos with a flatbed scanner, and it took forever. At some point life took over, and I ran out of time to finish the project. The old flatbed scanner was outdated and no longer compatible with my laptop, so I took the plunge and shelled out for this, which is worth EVERY penny. It comes with a CD, but I easily found the software online and downloaded it, and it worked perfectly with my laptop. It is VERY FAST and easy -- automatically detects proper cropping or orientation if you drop the picture in crooked or sideways, and it's easy with a couple clicks to change orientation on the computer before you save the files. The scan quality is perfect, and the file size is small enough that they uploaded to my photo site WAY faster than new digital photos from a camera or phone. I was able to quickly finish my scanning project after all these years and organize the old photos to be given to those pictured one day when I'm gone.

Very fast, good resolution and color
I am using this with a 7 year old 27 inch iMac running OS10.11.3 to scan family snapshot photos for archiving. I have a lot of experience with high-end scanners from my job and I’ve been a knowledgeable amateur photographer for over 50 years and at one point did event photography as part of my job. This little scanner is pretty darned nice. I downloaded the software from the Plustek website and installed it with no problems. The software’s user interface is not as friendly as it could be, but if you poke around in it a bit it’s easy enough to figure it out.The scanner is astonishingly fast. It really does scan a snapshot at 300 dpi in a couple of seconds. 600 dpi takes about twice as long, but there’s little point in scanning a 4x6 inch snapshot at more than 300 dpi. Most home printers can’t go above 300 dpi and you’re still limited by the grain size in the original snapshot. If you try to scan a 4x6 snapshot taken with fast consumer-level film at 600 dpi, then blow it up to 8x12 to print it, you won’t be happy with the results.I was able to scan a stack of photos in a few minutes that would have taken me an entire afternoon using our Epson multipurpose printer/scanner/fax. The working pattern I’ve used is to scan the photos in batches by topic (birthdays, vacation, Christmas, etc.). Each batch appears as thumbnails in the software, then I can save that batch to its folder on my hard drive with a single command. Other reviewers have mentioned the software stalling during scanning of large batches. That may depend on the speed of your computer and the amount of memory in it more than the software. So far, scanning in medium-sized batches (no more than about 50 at a time) and saving them to my hard drive I have not had any problems.I would not use the Plustek for high-end photographic or graphics work, but for home or non-specialist office scanning it’s great. It can scan photos or documents up to letter sized. And it has a small footprint on your desk compared to a dedicated scanner.

Good for quick scans at this price point
I needed a photo scanner quick to scan photos for a memorial slide show. This scanner did a great job and did it quickly. There are a couple of things I didn’t like to give it that 5th star.My biggest complaint is I cannot for the life of me get things to scan straight. The guides are too small, just barely raised lines so if I don’t take the time to meticulously line up the photo, it scans crooked which drove me crazy. The other thing is I could only scan a certain amount of photo in a batch before I had to save them off. Didn’t seem like a big deal at first but got annoying quick. Other than that I am pretty impressed with the quality and the ease of editing, cropping and the auto editing features worked well. I am about to start a large project to digitize boxes and boxes of family photos. I would not use this scanner for that. But for a quick scan, it does the job

Works well
Easy to set up, easy to use, easy to save to files on computer. Pictures pop up on computer, easy to see how they turned out. Place photos one at a time, it scans quickly. Great scanner for the price. Also worked on documents.
