Not her best
I love Cecelia Ahern's writing. She always has wonderful insights into human nature, and her stories are thought provoking, funny, well written and interesting. But this one was very hard for me to get into. I got the distinct impression that Allegra had Asperger's syndrome, and was not very likable to boot. It was very hard to empathize or sympathize with her and her situation. I felt sorry for her, but I didn't really feel invested in her or the other characters. I'm not sure how to explain it. It seemed to go on and on, then ended all in a rush, and although it ended happily for all, pretty much, I felt the ending could have been fleshed out a little more. I still love Cecelia Ahern, but felt strangely disappointed by this one..

This is an insightful and funny picture of a woman seeking to "curate" herself
This is a wonderful story full of interesting and "human" and not so human characters. The central character is unique, as are all her people. In fact the whole story is full of interesting characters as she tries to find the ones who will help her "curate" the person she wants to become.A particular strength is that the writing never dips or loses it's plot or its consistency. From beginning to end it is an interesting and fulfilling and ultimately heartwarming read

Beautiful story telling
This is an amazing book. I have read every Cecelia Ahern book and this is up with the very best. I had it on pre-order and read it straight away. The main character, Freckles, is a girl named Allegra. She has been brought up by her father and has never met her mother. She lives on Valentia Island but moves to Dublin to be closer to her mum and hopefully build a relationship with her. Allegra is a very likeable and slightly odd character. She tries to get closer to her mum, but doesn't tell her who she is. Running alongside this is her new job as a traffic warden and the people she gets to know in Dublin. There is also her beloved dad, back in Valentia. These characters are woven together to make a wonderful story. I absolutely loved every page and wish I was still reading it.

Last of quotation marks!
Sadly the lack of quotation marks to show when people are speaking made this a hard book to read. It just didn’t flow well and I constantly had to figure out if this was speech or not! I have no idea why authors do this and hope it’s not a new trend. I liked the idea but had to give up as it just got frustrating!

A reasonable book which does make you think a little
I wanted to read this as I really like Cecelia’s books. It is a typical one of hers. Involving someone who is inspired to change their life in some ways but also as always realising that they already have something really worthwhile but didn’t see it.It is entertaining and interesting as you try to figure freckles out.Worth a few hours of your time.

Good, not the best CA book, but good
This is a good book to lose yourself in on a Sunday afternoon. It takes a while to get going and then seems to fizzle out. You feel for the main character. She is rather sad for her age. Just as you really want to explore the characters more and see their relationships unfold more towards the end, it comes to an abrupt gallop to finish in the last few chapters without much explanation of them or what happens next. It’s a shame. It could have been amazing, but sadly I think it’s only ok. I would definitely read it if you like the other CA books, which I do, a lot, I just don’t think this gave all the story there was to tell. Nothing felt really concluded. I look forward to the next book of hers though. Every autumn one seems to come out and it’s always a pleasure to get and read. I just can’t help being a little disappointed with this one.

Excellent read
Really enjoyed this book. Read it in a day. A story of life and sadness and happiness. Great story. I hadn’t realised there are 18 books from Cecelia now.
