Most Enjoyable Collection, kept me Smiling
It was potluck, I figured, when ordered this as to what stories it held. It proved to be a delicious smorgasbord of offerings. Tucker’s writing, like his reporting, draw your interest within minutes. There’s a common thread, no matter what the topic, where you’ll feel a smile make its way across your face. Then a nod of the head of recognition that you toohave wandered the same trails and met similar personalities he describes. This book is a keeper. Perfect to read in that threadbare cozy relic of a chair, with a snowstorm howling outside or a torrential downpour. Enjoy

I appreciate the self deprecation , not what I expected
Tucker starts out with a story about Al Sharpton and a trip to Africa with him and the Muslim brotherhood, which was funny, insightful and honest and I found myself thinking "well thats different "and gave me a different (more positive) perspective on Sharpton. Each chapter covers a space in time, which paints with clarity the past, (recent past) vs the censored narrow world we live in today. He gives no lectures, no ideological views just a nostalgic look back (not that long ago) at when people talked, disagreed but didnt hate or try to destroy people they disagreed with.Tucker really covers a large range of subjects, and there was only one chapter I could not get into, which I am sure was on me as it held no interest for me.

Dissent and Free-Thinking Are No Longer Allowed In Journalism
Tucker Carlson---the host of 'Tucker Carlson Tonight' on Fox News and 'Tucker Carlson Today' on Fox Nation, and a number one New York Times bestselling author of 'Ship of Fools'---is the best and most influential journalist in America today. Tucker is a truth teller, a free thinker, a clear writer, and cares deeply about America. In this entertaining book, Tucker showcases his clear writing, sharp wit, and love for America via a collection of magazine stories he has written over the years. The overarching theme of the book is that journalism has changed dramatically in the 30 years since Tucker joined the business. In many cases, journalism has become propaganda. Journalists are no longer truth tellers. They are activists. Dissent and free-thinking are no longer allowed. They are penalized. Journalists openly censor ideas they don't like. As it relates to current events, the most important part of the book is the introduction. Tucker describes in detail how Simon & Schuster, the publisher of this book, and other publishers have been corrupted by the woke movement. Publishing houses used to stand for unfettered truth, free speech, and the marketplace of ideas. They now stand for far-left politics and censorship of right-leaning authors and ideas. In particular, Tucker discusses in detail what transpired at Simon & Schuster after January 6. Tucker was at the time under contract to write this book. Simon & Schuster cancelled the publication of Senator Josh Hawley's book---The Tyranny of Big Tech---for partisan political reasons (Hawley's book was subsequently picked up by Regnery Publishing and became a bestseller---it's a must read. As they say: Go Woke, Go Broke). The cancellation of Hawley's book by Simon & Schuster deeply affected Tucker. He called it an ominous sign for free expression and for America. So he decided to interview Simon & Schuster's CEO Jonathan Karp and Publisher Dana Canedy. It was an eye-opener. He discusses that interview in the introduction. Karp and Canedy couldn't answer basic questions about why they cancelled Hawley's book. That tells you everything you need to know about the state of publishing in America. Journalism and publishing have been hijacked by woke mobs. As Tucker puts it, "if small-minded partisans had been in charge, I never could have stayed in the business. As [sic] this point, people with my opinions can't. They've been driven from traditional journalism."

A Delight in Every Way!
Every sentence in this book is beautifully written as we've come to expect from this author. For those of us who missed many of these stories the first time they were published, this is a much appreciated reprieve. From stories of childhood feats of danger which cause every mother’s heart to beat a little faster upon reading them, to tales of interactions with notable political figures and his time with some questionable characters from whose adventures we readers are more than happy he was able to extricate himself in one piece, this book was both an entertaining and informative adventure.Tucker Carlson is nothing short of a treasure to many of us. Now having received the gift of the content in this book it’s back to Ship of Fools for my second read. Thanks, Tucker!

MUST READ BOOK
Tucker is at his best. Great book but not as politically charged. Great with honest opinions about people and truthful about people with different political minds but also talks about their real good qualities and is very important. Some very funny stories.Great for political junkies who need a break but want to know that you can be different in opinions and still like the other person.

Nice
This is my second book written by this man, tha man, that I have read. First one was Ship of Fools: How a Selfish Ruling Class Is Bringing America to the Brink of Revolution by Tucker Carlson. Lots of things are happening. Things that I am not aware living my small life. Thanks Tucker for sharing.

Loved it
Tucker is the best. I was initially disappointed to see it was a collection of magazine essays he'd written over the past 30 years but quickly realized that was the point; most of them may well have been written in 2021.5 stars. Please write more books, Tucker! Ship of Fools was excellent and The Long Slide had proved a terrific follow up.

Introduction Alone Worth Buying This Book
Tucker is in full illumination mode on the evolution and sad state of the reporting, editing and publishing industry. Incredibly powerful doesn't go far enough, Tucker's clear, cutting introduction is reason enough to buy it, read it and support his thesis. Thoroughly enjoyable, Tucker takes us back to the era of free speech, free thought, and the absence of media cowardice.
